Schauffele, local resident, in hunt

WILMINGTON, Del. — Patrick Cantlay was part of an all-star chasing pack until he holed out from 106 yards for eagle and carried that to a 6-under-par 65 on Saturday, giving him a 12-under 201 total, a one-shot lead and a chance to become the first back-toback winner of the BMW Championship in the Fedex Cup era.

Next up is another round with a familiar face. Las Vegas resident Xander Schauffele, Cantlay’s closest friend on the PGA Tour, had a bogey-free 66 and was one shot back, along with Scott Stallings (66).

This is far from a two-man show on the South course at Wilmington Country Club that is sun-baked and fast on the greens.

UNLV product Adam Scott (69), trying to get into the top 30 who reach the Tour Championship, was two shots behind, along with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (68). Las Vegas resident Collin Morikawa (65) and Aaron Wise (67) made it seven players separated by three shots.

No. 9 Will Zalatoris, coming off his first tour win last week, withdrew after four holes Saturday because of lower-back pain. He was 1 under for the day and 4 under for the tournament.

■ DP World: At Vysoky Ujezd, Czech Republic, third-round play at the D+D Real Czech Masters was suspended after heavy rain flooded the course. Ten players started the round, which will continue Sunday, with the event decided over 54 holes. Gavin Green, at 14-under 130, had a threeshot lead after two rounds.

■ Champions: At Endicott, N.Y., Mike Weir had eight birdies and a bogey in a 7-under 65 for a 12-under 132 total and a one-shot lead over Padraig Harrington (67) entering the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open’s final round. Ernie Els (68) and Vijay Singh (70) were two strokes back.

■ USGA: At Paramus, N.J., Texas A&M senior Sam Bennett and Georgia Southern senior Ben Carr advanced to the U.S. Amateur title match. Bennett, the world’s No. 3 amateur, has notched all of his wins against players ranked 27th or better. Carr is 70th.
