Saturday Aviators 12, River Cats 8 at Las Vegas Ballpark

■ RECAP: With the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning, David Villar was hit by a pitch, bringing in the go-ahead run for the River Cats and breaking a 7-7 tie. Luis Barrera hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Aviators their first lead, 7-5, erasing the River Cats’ fourrun lead. Villar hit a two-run homer in the first, and back-to-back homers from Willie Calhoun and Ford Proctor in the fourth put Sacramento up 5-1. Kevin Smith hit a tworun triple and Dermis Garcia a three-run homer in the Aviators’ five-run eighth inning.

■ RECORDS: Aviators (58-58); River Cats (50-66)

■ ON THE MOUND: Aviators starter Collin Wiles tossed 5⅔ innings and allowed five runs on seven hits, with six strikeouts. Sam Long went three innings, allowing two hits, a run, four walks and four strikeouts in a start for the River Cats.

■ AT THE PLATE:

Smith hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth. Jordan Diaz recorded an RBI single in the third, driving in Smith, and Cristian Pache had an RBI triple in the fourth, driving in Matt Davidson, who had two hits. Barrera, Diaz and Pache each also had two hits.
