AVIATORS TOP FIVE OF THE WEEK

-

1.

Call him Bangeliers: It didn’t take Shea Langeliers long to make a big bang with A’s fans after being called up from the Aviators on Tuesday. The catcher and A’s toprated prospect smacked the first pitch he saw as a major leaguer into the left-field corner for a double before hitting his first big league home run Wednesday night. Langeliers was the first A’s rookie to get a hit on the first pitch of his first MLB at-bat in 23 years.

2.

Tools of the trade: Langeliers also threw out the Texas Rangers’ Marcus Semien on a steal attempt of second base Thursday, prompting this line from the A’s broadcast booth: “Shea Langeliers is ready to do a little yard work. He brought the rake to work last night and here he’s got the hose on display.”

3.

Stat of the week: From the Locked on A’s Twitter account after former Aviators shortstop Nick Allen (his 10 stolen bases this season before being called up still leads Las Vegas) hit home runs in consecutive at-bats over two games for the A’s: “After going deep in backto-back games and back-to-back at-bats, Nick Allen is either on pace for 162 homers or 650 homers over the course of a full season.”

4.

Good eyes, good result: The 10 walks the Aviators coaxed from Sacramento pitchers in a 12-1 victory Tuesday were a season high.

5.

Space Cowboys to invade: After the PCL off day Monday, the Aviators will host the Sugar Land Space Cowboys in a six-game series beginning Tuesday at Las Vegas Ballpark with the following promotions: Tuesday, Reyes de Plata (celebrating Hispanic heritage); Wednesday, Bark in the Park (dogs admitted); Thursday, $2 Beer Night; Friday, Ceramic Las Vegas Ballpark Replica giveaway (first 2,000 fans).
