Hawaii, Curacao in final of Little League World Series
Ruston Hiyoto hit a two-run homer to back Cohen Sakamoto, who had seven strikeouts, as Honolulu won the United States title at the Little League World Series by beating Nolensville (Tennessee) 5-1 in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Honolulu will face Willemstad (Curacao), a 1-0 winner over Taipei City (Chinese Taipei) in the international title game, for the overall championship Sunday. Honolulu has outscored its opponents 47-2 in the tournament.
■ Golf: British Open champion Cameron Smith is expected to be among the next wave of PGA Tour players to defect to LIV Golf, ESPN reported. Smith, 29, ranked No. 2 and a six-time PGA Tour winner, will be the highestranked player to defect. Anirban Lahiri, Marc Leishman, Joaquin Niemann, Cameron Tringale and Harold Varner III also are set to join LIV Golf.
■ Motor sports: At Daytona Beach, Fla., Jeremy Clements won a crash-filled Wawa 250 after two multicar melees in overtime for his second victory in 421 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts and first since 2017. The 37-year-old driver/team owner gained an automatic postseason berth. Timmy Hill was second and series points leader A.J. Allmendinger third.
■ Volleyball: At Denton, Texas, Isabel Martin had 11 kills and Chloe Thomas 10 to lead UNLV (3-0) to a 25-15, 25-21, 25-20 win over Jacksonville (0-3).
