LIGHTS GAME REPORT

-

Saturday

Rio Grande Valley 5, Lights FC 0 Cashman Field

RECAP:

The Toros scored five goals during a 30-minute barrage, handing the Lights their most lopsided loss of the season. The Lights had allowed four goals only once this season, and that came in a 5-4 win at El Paso on March 23. Christian Pinzon started the onslaught in the 28th minute, and he assisted

on the second of Jonas Fjeldberg’s two goals. Erik Pimentel and Ricky Ruiz also found the back of the net, and José Torres finished with two assists.

■ RECORDS: Rio Grande Valley (8-11-6); Lights FC (10-10-7)

■ IN THE NETS: Lights goalkeeper Abraham Romero has had better days, stopping three shots on target. Toros goalkeeper Tyler Deric stopped the one shot he faced on frame.

■ ALSO: Rio Grande Valley lifted itself out of the Western Conference basement in the USL

in recording a season-high in goals. In fact, the Toros entered having only scored five goals in their past eight matches and 28 total on the season. The Lights were outshot 23-4, and the Toros drew all seven of the match’s corner kicks. Alejandro Lara didn’t help matters for the Lights when he left with a red card in the 14th minute. Perhaps underscoring the Toros’ aggresive nature, they were called for 18 fouls to the Lights’ seven.
