1916 — Longtime pitching rivals Christy Mathewson of the Cincinnati Reds and Mordecai Brown of the Chicago Cubs closed their careers, by special arrangement, in the same game. Mathewson won 10-8.

1923 — New York right-hander Sam Jones pitched a no-hitter in the Yankees’ 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Athletics without striking out a batter.
