Attorney seeks to not have his words used against him
In the months leading up the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, Americus, Georgia, attorney William Mccall Calhoun Jr., 59, made numerous irate posts on Facebook, Twitter and Parler, often referencing his stockpile of guns and ammo and predicting “civil war.”
Now Calhoun is asking a federal judge in Washington, D.C., to prohibit prosecutors from using his comments on social media against him in trial. Calhoun’s attorney, Jessica Shermanstoltz, wrote in a motion filed this week in federal court that her client’s words would create an unfair picture for jurors.
A hearing is set for next month.
