"It’s been a wonderful life”, according to Charles Randal Evans (Chuck), a longtime resident of Las Vegas. Chuck passed away at his home September 2, 2022. He was born to Terrell and Doris Darby Evans at their house in Dexter, Missouri on July 16, 1933; the year prohibitio­n ended. He was sixth generation of the Evans Family of Potters. Chuck had no siblings but was very close to his cousins Doris Jean Arnold and Sam Darby. The Evans family moved to Boulder City, Nevada in 1936, returning to Dexter Missouri to farm the land during the depression, returning to Boulder City in 1945. After a short stay in Needles California, they returned to Las Vegas in 1947. Chuck hated to leave Needles as he was enjoying his time in high school there. He attended Las Vegas High School playing the coronet in the band and JV and Varsity football, graduating in 1951. He attended UNR, returning to Las Vegas during the summer to work at Western Electric Chemical Company. He left school for a few years after marrying Donna Sexsmith; following their divorce he returned to UNR. During this time, he married Janis Ostermille­r, and ultimately graduated as a Civil Engineer and a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1959. They moved to Las Vegas and 6 months later he traveled to Ft. Sill, OK where he served his 6 months enrollment in Basic Officer Training. After completion of his active duty, he joined the Army Reserve in Las Vegas ultimately retiring in 1985 as a Lt. Colonel. Chuck began his work life at the Nevada Test Site for Holmes and Narver as a Project Engineer, including short stints at Area 51. He continued at the test site with Reynolds Electric Engineerin­g from 1970 to 1977. He then moved to Portland Cement Associatio­n to promote the use of concrete in Nevada and California. This job took him to living in California in the Bay area, Sacramento and Upland before returning to Las Vegas in 1989 to retire. He served as the president of the American Society of Engineers from 1981 to 1982. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Las Vegas, from 1965 until his passing. Chuck loved people and his community and was an active member of: Majority of One, Parents without Partners, Singles Ski Club, Singles Travel Club, Bottle Collectors Club, Toastmaste­rs – Bachelors and Bacheloret­tes, sponsored by ‘I’ll drink to that’... Chuck loved to travel on cruise ships: a total of 53 voyages. He took several tours around the world to places he loved, including Egypt, Turkey, and China. His first car was a 1934 Plymouth coupe. He loved swap meets and antique shopping and collected old and new jewelry. He is survived by his three children; Jodie Evans of Venice, CA, Cynthia Evans Ambre of Las Vegas and Charles Randall Evans Jr. of Las Vegas, as well as 6 grandchild­ren and 8 great grandchild­ren.
