Reddick edges Logano for Cup Series pole in Kansas

-

Tyler Reddick will start from the pole in the Hollywood Casino 400, Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. Reddick, fifth in the playoff standings, stopped the clock in 29.899 seconds with an average speed of 180.608 mph to deny Joey Logano (29.936, 180.385) a second straight pole. The top five starting spots belong to playoff drivers. Las Vegas native Kyle Busch qualified 20th in the 36-car field.

■ NASCAR Xfinity: At Kansas City, Kan., Las Vegan Noah Gragson outran Justin Allgaier to win the rain-shortened Kansas Lottery 300 for his 10th series victory, fifth this season and second straight. Kansas Speedway had been the lone track at which the 24-year-old Bishop Gorman product had failed to record a top-10 finish. Allgaier was second, followed by points leader Ty Gibbs, in the series’ penultimate regular-season race.

■ Formula One: At Monza, Italy, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari clinched Italian Grand Prix pole position, with runaway points leader Max Verstappen of Red Bull relegated to the seventh spot after being one of nine drivers to receive a grid penalty. Leclerc is tied for second in the standings, 109 points behind Verstappen, the reigning series champion, who is bidding for a fifth straight win.

■ Indycar: At Monterey, Calif., Will Power broke Mario Andretti’s record for poles with his 68th, pacing qualifying for the season-closing Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey. The run gave Power, the series leader, an additional standings point and a 21-point edge over Team Penske teammate Josef Newgarden and six-time series champion Scott Dixon.
