La Russa cleared to travel but not for dugout return

Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa’s doctors cleared him to travel from his Phoenix home to Oakland for Sunday’s jersey retirement ceremony for former Athletics pitcher Dave Stewart. But the 77-year-old Hall of Famer has yet to be cleared to return to the dugout as an active manager. La Russa missed his 12th straight game Saturday because of heart issues.

■ Soccer: Fans traveling to the 2022 World Cup will not be allowed to take alcohol for personal consumptio­n into Qatar, with the head of the country’s safety and security committee stating “specific measures” are in place to take action against anyone attempting to smuggle liquor in their luggage.
