-

Saturday Rainiers 12, Aviators 11

Las Vegas Ballpark

■ RECAP: Kevin Smith hit for the cycle in a 5-for-5 effort, and Matt Davidson hit two home runs for the second consecutive night, but it wasn’t enough to win a slugfest that featured 35 hits. The Rainiers hit four home runs — Erick Mejia and Jonathan Villar went back-to-back during a six-run fifth inning as Tacoma erased an early five-run deficit — and Kyle Lewis drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth with a single after Drew Ellis’ tying two-run shot for Tacoma. The Aviators started the ninth with three consecutive singles to plate a run, but Nick Ramirez wiggled out of the jam for his 14th save.

■ RECORDS: Aviators (69-71), Rainiers (6773)

■ AT THE PLATE:

Jarred Kelenic also homered for the Rainiers. Brian O’keefe hit a three-run double in the fifth and totaled four RBIS. Davidson (4-for-5, four RBIS) has eight home runs in his past eight games to tie for the Pacific Coast League lead with Oklahoma City’s Jason Martin at 31. Smith hit two homers, and Cal Stevenson collected three hits and three RBIS.

■ ON THE MOUND: Making his first start since being promoted from High-a Lansing, right-hander Mason Miller worked three scoreless innings. Drew Steckenrider allowed three runs in an inning but improved to 3-0, while Adam Kolarek (1-3) took the loss.
