Whoa, Adrian! K-state stifles No. 6 Oklahoma

Martinez accounts for 382 yards, five touchdowns

NORMAN, Okla. — Kansas State quarterbac­k Adrian Martinez ran for 148 yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries as the Wildcats stunned No. 6 Oklahoma 41-34 on Saturday.

Martinez also passed for 234 yards and a score, and Deuce Vaughn rushed for 116 yards for the Wildcats (3-1, 1-0 Big 12).

It was first-year Sooners coach Brent Venables’ first loss, and it came against his alma mater. Kansas State also beat Oklahoma in 2012, 2014, 2019 and 2020.

Dillon Gabriel passed for 330 yards and four TDS, and Eric Gray ran for 114 yards for the Sooners (3-1, 0-1).

K-state led 14-0 in the opening 9½ minutes behind Martinez’s 6-yard TD run and 6-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Malik Knowles. The Wildcats gained 279 yards in the first half and led 24-17 lead at intermissi­on.

Martinez scored his third rushing TD from 15 yards out to put K-state up 34-20 with eight minutes to play. Gabriel found tight end Brayden Willis for a 1-yard TD pass with 4:36 left to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 34-27.

But on K-state’s next possession, Martinez broke loose for 55 yards on a third-and-16. He finished the drive with a 1-yard scoring run. Gabriel found Willis for a 10-yard TD pass with 35 seconds left, pulling the Sooners within 41-34.

■ No. 3 Ohio State 52, Wisconsin 21: At Columbus, Ohio, tight end Cade Stover and wide receiver Emeka Egbuka each caught two of C.J. Stroud’s five TD passes for the Buckeyes (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten), who scored TDS on their first four drives. The Badgers (2-2, 0-1) trailed 31-7 at halftime.

Miyan Williams ran for 101 yards and two TDS on 11 carries, and Treveyon Henderson added 121 yards on 21 carries for OSU, which had a 258-192 edge in yards rushing.

Stroud was 17 of 27 passing for 281 yards and threw his first intercepti­on this season. He has 16 TD passes in four games.

Braelon Allen ran for 165 yards and a TD on 23 carries for Wisconsin, and Graham Mertz was 11 of 20 passing for 94 yards and a TD and ran for a score.

■ No. 7 Southern California 17, Oregon State 14: At Corvallis, Ore., wide receiver Jordan Addison caught a go-ahead 21-yard TD pass with 1:13 left for the Trojans (4-0, 2-0 Pac-12), who had scored at least 40 points in each of their previous three games.

Chance Nolan threw for 167 yards with four intercepti­ons for the Beavers (3-1, 0-1), who went up 14-10 on Jam Griffin’s 18-yard TD run with 4:41 to go.

USC quarterbac­k Caleb Williams threw for a season-low 180 yards on 16-for-36 passing, and Addison — the 2021 Biletnikof­f Award winner who transferre­d from Pittsburgh — totaled three catches for 42 yards.

Travis Dye ran for 133 yards and a TD on 19 carries for the Trojans, who had a 357-320 edge in yards of offense. They hadn’t trailed this season until the second quarter Saturday.

■ New Mexico State 45, Hawaii

26: At Las Cruces, N.M., Star Thomas ran for 144 yards and a TD on 11 carries for the Aggies (1-4), who ran for 353 yards at an average of 8.4 per attempt. Brayden Schager threw for 260 yards and a TD for the Rainbow Warriors (1-4), who were outgained only 438-411 in yards of offense.
