MARTHA ELIZABETH HUMPHREY
Martha Elizabeth Humphrey passed away Sept 19, 2022 at her home at Las Ventanas in Las Vegasnevada. she was 86 years old. She was born to Reverend Edward and Alice West on October 21, 1935 in Loveland Colorado. She spent many of her younger years in Loveland and Black Forest at La Foret where her parents worked and ran a church camp.
While attending Falcon High School in Colorado she met Babe (Gerald) Humphrey and although she graduated from Monument High School, she and Babe continued their new found relationship. Martha attended Western State College until they married in 1955 at the church camp in La Foret, Colorado.
As Babe was in the Marines, they moved briefly to California while he was deployed to Korea but moved back to Colorado in 1956. They would live in Colorado where she and Babe had 5 children. Martha supported Babe in pursuing his western music career which included singing for the Flying W Ranch for many years.
Martha was not afraid of hard work. In addition to encouraging Babe, she would take on jobs to help support the family. She worked at a lumber company, Farmers Insurance, and at one time cleaned new homes with her sister-in-law, Carol Sedman to name a few.
In 1977, Babe and Martha moved to Jackson, Wyoming where she worked with her husband in successfully starting the Bar J Chuckwagon. She would work alongside Babe for 44 years, where she deeply enjoyed watching her husband and sons, Scott and Bryan, entertain many tourists and locals alike.
In 2002 Martha and Babe began wintering in Las Vegas. Nevada. They loved the sunshine, met many new friends, and deepened relationships with Martha's brother Larry and sister-in-law, Evelyn West. In 2012 they moved into the community of Las Ventanas. As Martha developed breast cancer and other physical challenges, she remained a vital part of her community where Babe currently resides.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents Reverend Ed and Alice West, brother, Gordon West, grandson Cody Shervin, and granddaughter Jessica Humphrey.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald (Babe) Humphrey (Las Vegas, Nv.); daughter Diane (Gary) Gieck (Jackson, Wy.); daughter Joanne (Eric) Anderson (Greybull, Wy.); daughter Leeann (Tony) Beaverson (Cody, Wy.); son Scott (Julie) Humphrey (San Antonio, TX.); son Bryan (Sandy) Humphrey (Lipan, TX); brother Larry (Evelyn) West (Las Vegas, NV.); 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many other extended family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial celebration of life will be held October 16 at 4:00 pm at Las Ventanas 10401 West Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89135. All who knew and loved Martha are welcome to attend.
