James Michael Hollowood, 79, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, passed away September 24, 2022, at Spring Valley Hospital after a short illness. Mike was born March 19, 1943 in Steubenvil­le, OH, to Allen “Si” and Elizabeth Hollowood. He was married June 11, 1966, to his wife, Jane Anne Mccormick, of San Diego. Mike graduated from Steubenvil­le Catholic Central High School in 1961 and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Navy on the USS Worden (DLG-18) during the Vietnam War. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (1971) and his Master’s degree in Education Administra­tion (1973) from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He was a special education teacher with the Clark County School District for 34 years. He also worked as a banquet bartender at the Las Vegas Hilton for 27 years. Mike enjoyed sports, playing football and baseball while in high school, and then following his favorite Pittsburgh teams: the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. His favorite player was Roberto Clemente. He was a passionate fan of his alma mater UNLV’S football team and his beloved Runnin’ Rebels, holding season tickets for more than 30 years. The referees may now rest easy. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane, his sons, Robert (Christina), Michael (Jessica), Stephen Kaylor (Megan), daughter, Sarah Jane Jara (Eric), as well as three wonderful grandchild­ren, Benjamin, Caroline, and Elizabeth, his brother, Allen “Jake” (Emilia), and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard Mayers and Charles Augustus. Services will be at 12:40 pm, Wed., Nov. 16, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
