Women’s bodies are their purview

-

In the Oct. 6 letter “Aborting viable fetus is murder,” the male writer, who no doubt favored the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, states that Democrats are obsessed about criticizing Republicans for trying to control women’s bodies.

What Democrats want to protect is a woman’s autonomy in deciding her reproductive rights that was recognized as the law for 50 years under Roe and which was improperly overturned because of the majority, older evangelical men and women jurists with whom former president Donald Trump packed the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, while Trump failed in most respects, he was successful in packing the court, even though freedom of religion should also mean freedom from religion, especially when no legal precedent existed for overturning Roe.

I don’t know the personal feelings of a woman in determining whether an abortion is necessary because of medical, psychological, financial or other reasons, so where do other men get off believing they have any say over a woman’s reproductive autonomy?

The good news is that the Hobbs case is not national law and can only be implemented by governments in each state, which means you should vote for pro-choice candidates. In this state, that includes Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, Gov. Steve Sisolak, and Reps. Dina Titus, Susie Lee and Steven Horsford. Tom Harper, Las Vegas
