Proud to stand with Sisolak to build inclusive economy

At the Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce of Nevada (GLCCNV) — the state’s largest LGBTQIA+ business support organization — our mission is to support businesses and entrepreneurs across the Silver State to build an inclusive, prosperous economy.

We take great pride in our work, which includes endorsing leaders at the state and local levels who we believe will advocate for our members’ best interests when elected.

This year, we were proud to endorse Gov. Steve Sisolak for reelection.

From expanding access to capital for Lgbt-owned businesses, allocating nearly $100 million in grants to small businesses across the Silver State, opposing an unemployment insurance tax rate increase, to taking unprecedented steps to improve K-12 education and make community college free for more Nevadans, Sisolak has proven he is the right choice for Nevada businesses.

Sisolak was a small-business owner himself — he understands the challenges of signing the front of a check, paying his employees and keeping the lights on. And he shares our belief that the strongest economy is an inclusive economy.

Sisolak has also prioritized partnership during his first term as governor and worked with us to support our members and grow Nevada’s economy. Just last month, he joined a member happy hour and discussed the ways he will continue advocating for us in his second term.

We knew the governor had a busy schedule, but he still took the time to shake hands and talk with everyone in the room.

That’s the kind of leadership, visibility and commitment we need from our governor.

The past few years have been difficult; but now, in huge part thanks to our state’s small-business community, business support organizations like GLCCNV, and the governor’s advocacy in Carson City, Nevada’s economy is coming back stronger than ever.

We’ve officially surpassed our all-time employment high, Nevada’s employment growth has either been the fastest or second-fastest in the nation every month of 2022 and, last year, Nevadans applied to start the most new businesses in recorded history.

At the GLCCNV, we know there’s still work to do to strengthen our economy — but these are clean indicators that Nevada is on the move.

We believe Sisolak’s plan to keep taxes low, prioritize fiscal responsibility, ensure our communities remain inclusive and welcoming to all, invest in job training programs to strengthen our workforce, and ensure our students receive the best education possible is the best roadmap to keep Nevada moving forward.

Sisolak has been a friend to the Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and our members during his time in public office, and we know he will continue working with us to advocate for our best interests in a second term.

Now is the time to roll up our sleeves, continue our work, address the challenges of tomorrow, and build a stronger, better, more resilient Nevada.

I can assure you that GLCCNV and Sisolak are ready to get the job done.
