Equal protection? Yes. Minimum wage hike? Yes. Changing our election process? No.
Question 1
Equal protection. Vote Yes
Shall the Nevada Constitution be amended by adding a specific guarantee that equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by this State or any of its cities, counties, or other political subdivisions on account of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, ancestry, or national origin?
Currently, a patchwork of local, state and federal laws provides inconsistent protection against identity-based discrimination in Nevada. The result is that everyone from individuals to government and school officials to law enforcement are often unsure of when and how to take action against discriminatory practices. By passing this long-overdue amendment to the state constitution and enshrining these protections in the most powerful legal document in the state, Nevadans can expect consistent, reliable and predictable protection against discriminatory practices by their government.
We strongly endorse voting “Yes” on Question 1.
