Volleyball team tops UNR for ninth consecutiv­e win

Gabrielle Arretche-ramos had 16 kills and Jhenna Gabriel 49 assists, 12 digs and four aces to lead UNLV past UNR 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14 for the Rebels’ ninth straight victory in a Mountain West volleyball match Saturday in Reno. Ellease Crumpton had 13 kills on .476 hitting and four blocks, Dakota Quinlan had 12 kills on .524 hitting, and Maya Sands had 20 digs for UNLV (18-3, 9-1), which held a .208 to .146 edge in hitting. Kayla Afoa had 12 kills and 14 digs for the Wolf Pack (10-11, 4-6).

■ Men’s swimming: At Buchanan Natatorium, George Ratiu won the 50 freestyle in 20.21 seconds and was part of the winning 200 medley and 400 frestyle relays in helping the Rebels split their season-opening double dual, beating Denver 156-102 and falling to Toronto 143-110.

■ Women’s swimming: At Buchanan Natatorium, Blanka Bokros placed second in the 100 butterfly (56.58 seconds) and 200 butterfly (2:01.65) in helping the Rebels split their seasonopen­ing double dual, beating Denver 187.5-74.5 and falling to Toronto 203-59.
