Four-goal third period key as Capitals slip past Kings

WASHINGTON — Marcus Johansson scored on a wraparound with 5:25 left to help Washington beat Los Angeles 4-3 on Saturday, the Capitals’ second victory in three games when trailing going into the third period.

Nic Dowd and John Carlson scored to erase a two-goal deficit before Lars Eller gave Washington the lead. Viktor Arvidsson, who assisted on the first two Kings goals, scored to tie it again before Johansson put the Capitals ahead for good.

Dmitry Orlov tied a career high with three assists, and Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves, including a couple of important stops in the final minute, for Washington, which has won three of four after dropping its first two.

Jonathan Quick stopped 28 shots for Los Angeles, which capped a five-game trip after getting blown out Thursday in Pittsburgh. The Kings won the first three on the trip.

The Capitals’ rally came after a frazzled, flustered first two periods full of mistakes that added up to a two-goal deficit when Arvidsson set up Sean Durzi for his first goal of the season and Phillip Danault for his third.

■ Bruins 4, Wild 3, OT: At Boston, Taylor Hall scored a power-play goal with 11 seconds left in overtime and had two assists. Marc-andre Fleury had eight of his 39 saves in overtime for Minnesota, which was outshot 43-27.

■ Blues 2, Oilers 0: At Edmonton, Alberta, Jordan Binnington stopped 23 shots in his 11th shutout and first this season, and Torey Krug scored in the first period. Jack Campbell had 21 saves for Edmonton.

■ Lightning 5, Islanders 3: At Tampa, Fla., Nicholas Paul put Tampa Bay up 4-2 by scoring with one-tenth of a second left in the second period, and Brayden Point had a goal and an assist for the Lightning.

■ Devils 2, Sharks 1: At Newark, N.J., Yegor Sharangovi­ch and Dawson Mercer scored in the second period to back Mackenzie Blackwood, who stopped 21 shots in New Jersey’s third straight win.

■ Penguins 6, Blue Jackets 3: At Columbus, Ohio, Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists for Pittsburgh, which overcame a two-goal deficit. Danton Heinen scored twice for the Penguins.

■ Senators 6, Coyotes 2: At Ottawa, Ontario, Brady Tkachuk scored twice, and Tyler Motte and Shane Pinto each added a goal and an assist for Ottawa in its third straight win.

■ Maple Leafs 4, Jets 1: At Winnipeg, Manitoba, John Tavares had two powerplay goals and Auston Matthews three assists to back Ilya Samsonov, who stopped 31 shots.

■ Stars 5, Canadiens 2: At Montreal, Joe Pavelski had three goals and an assist to back Jake Oettinger (4-0-0), who stopped 29 shots.

■ Flyers 3, Predators 1: At Nashville, Tenn., Joel Farabee had a goal and two assists to back Carter Hart, who stopped 31 shots.
