Tatum, White lead Celtics’ surge in win over Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — Jayson Tatum and Derrick White combined for 12 straight points late in the fourth quarter to help Boston beat Orlando 126-120 on Saturday.

Tatum totaled 40 points and eight rebounds. He launched a 10-2 run with two free throws with 4:08 left that put the Celtics up for good. White scored 27 points, two short of his career high, to help Boston (3-0) win for a second straight night.

Terrence Ross led the Magic with 29 points, rookie Paolo Banchero scored 23, and Franz Wagner added 18. Orlando (0-3) lost to the Celtics for a 10th straight time.

Without center Al Horford (stiff back), Boston played most of the game with 6-foot-6-inch Grant Williams at center. He had 13 points and six rebounds in 31 minutes.

■ Pacers 124, Pistons 115: At Indianapol­is, rookie Bennedict Mathurin hit three 3-pointers in a 2:20 span of the third quarter and totaled 27 points for Indiana, which halted a 12-game slide dating to last season. Cade Cunningham scored 22 points for Detroit, which led by 14 in the first quarter and by four at halftime.

■ Mavericks 137, Grizzlies 96: At Dallas, Luka Doncic scored 21 of his 32 points in the first quarter, and UNLV product Christian Wood had 25 points and 12 rebounds in his home debut for Dallas. Ja Morant scored 20 points for Memphis, which trailed by 25 points in the first quarter.

■ Heat 112, Raptors 109: At Miami, Jimmy Butler scored 24 points and Max Strus 20 for Miami, which saw a 24-point lead cut to six early in the fourth quarter after a scuffle that spilled into a row of baseline seats. Pascal Siakam and Gary Trent Jr. each had 23 points for Toronto.

■ Spurs 114, 76ers 105: At Philadelph­ia, Devin Vassell scored 22 points and Keldon Johnson 21 for San Antonio, which hit 16 of 38 3-point tries and held a 40-10 edge in points by reserves. Joel Embiid had 40 points for Philadelph­ia (0-3).

■ Cavaliers 128, Bulls 96: At Chicago, Donovan Mitchell had 32 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for Cleveland, which hit 16 3-pointers. Zach Lavine scored 23 points to lead Chicago in its home opener.

■ Bucks 125, Rockets 105: At Milwaukee, Giannis Antetokoun­mpo had 44 points and 12 rebounds in 28 minutes while passing Sidney Moncrief to become Milwaukee’s career leader in free throws.
