DANA PAUL FORTIER

Dana Paul Fortier

-

Dana Paul Fortier passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2022, after experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was 67. Dana was born on may 13, 1955, the youngest of six children, on Ramey Air Force base in Aguadilla, San Juan,

Puerto Rico. He was the sweetest baby adored by all of his siblings. Because he spent long days with his Puerto Rican nanny, many of his first words were in Spanish, much to his sisters' dismay who feared that he might never speak English. Of course, he started and never stopped!

Dana attended schools in Las Vegas and San Diego where he played basketball for San Diego High School. After graduation in 1973, Dana returned to Las Vegas where he began working as a dealer, stickman, floorman, and boxman for many of the top resort hotels, including the Bellagio and other Wynn properties. During his gaming career he met Lucy, the love of his life.

Dana was regarded by all as a kind, gentle, and caring person; a great friend; and a born caretaker who brought joy to his entire family. He and Lucy took care of Lucy's mother and daughter during their lives until their death. Soon after those losses, he chose to live with his mother taking care of her every need, including transportation to various appointments and cooking her meals until her passing. Because of his dedication and commitment, his beloved mother was able to remain in her home until her death, a short five months before his own death. Dana was a talented renaissance man: a self-made scholar, athletic, widely read, a talented guitarist, a trusted advisor and an avid sports enthusiast. He was most passionate about the Oakland Raiders before their dream relocation to Las Vegas. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels, the San Francisco Giants, the Golden Knights, and English football. He always shared his teams' wins and lamented their losses with his good friends, brothers-in-law, and his nephews.

Dana adored his little dog Brodie who always guarded him with a fearless bark. But most of all Dana had a heart for those who were less fortunate, dedicating much of his energy to reading about and supporting programs that helped others in need. He was an unabashed supporter for the rights and opportunities of all people.

Dana is survived by his sisters, Renee Fortier (John Wawerna, dec.) Kathleen Devleming (John) Annette Whittemore

(Harvey) and brother, Quincy (Saundra), Nannette Fortier, Sonia Fortier and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Quincy E Fortier, MD, his mother, Louise G. Fortier, his sister, Connie E. West (Mike), and nephews Aaron Wilson, Jesse Fortier, and Q Fortier.

A private service will be held for Dana at Christ Church Episcopal where his ashes will remain in the columbarium alongside his mother and nephew, Aaron Wilson.
