UNLV volleyball team caps regular season with victory

Isabel Martin had 18 kills and eight digs to help Mountain West volleyball champion UNLV close the regular season with its 17th straight victory, a 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-12 win over Colorado State on Saturday at Cox Pavilion. Ellease Crumpton and Gabrielle Arretche-ramos each had 12 kills for the Rebels (26-3, 17-1), who repaid the Rams (19-10, 12-6) for their lone league loss — a 3-0 setback Sept. 22 that marked the lone time UNLV has been swept this season. Malaya Jones had 14 kills for Colorado State, which was outhit .509 to .340. Jhenna Gabriel had 41 assists and Maya Sands 15 digs for the Rebels, who open the Mountain West tournament as the top seed Thursday in Fort Collins, Colorado.

■ Tennis: At Turin, Italy, Novak Djokovic kept alive his bid for a recordequa­ling sixth ATP Finals title by beating Taylor Fritz of San Diego 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6) in a semifinal. The Serb will face thirdseede­d Casper Ruud, who beat Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-4, in Sunday’s final as he aims for his first title at the event since 2015 to match Roger Federer’s record.

■ Motor sports: At Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Formula One champion Max Verstappen edged Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez by 0.228 seconds for Abu Dhabi Grand Prix pole position as the 25-year-old Belgian driver seeks a record-extending 15th win this season.

■ MLB: Cincinnati acquired middle infielder Kevin Newman from Pittsburgh for right-handed reliever Dauri Moreta. Newman, 29, a first-round draft pick by the Pirates in 2015, has hit .260 in five major league seasons.
