Michigan survives scare by Illini

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan survived two scares Saturday.

Jake Moody kicked a goahead 35-yard field goal with nine seconds left, lifting the third-ranked Wolverines past Illinois 19-17.

Michigan (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) played much of the second half without star running back Blake Corum, who sustained a left knee injury just before halftime and had only one second-half carry.

X-rays gave coach Jim Harbaugh and his players relief. “Structural­ly good, which is great news,” Harbaugh said.

Corum had 108 yards rushing and his 19th TD this season on 18 carries. The Heisman Trophy hopeful has run for 100 yards in eight straight games.

The Fighting Illini (7-4, 5-3) went up 17-10 late in the third quarter on Chase Brown’s 37-yard TD run. Brown had 140 yards and two scores on 29 carries.

Illinois QB Tommy Devito, a Syracuse transfer, was 21 of 30 for 178 yards on day that had a wind chill of 11 degrees and wind gusting to 18 mph.

J.J. Mccarthy was 18 of 34 for 208 yards for Michigan, which got four second-half field goals from Moody.

■ No. 1 Georgia 16, Kentucky 6: At Lexington, Ky., Kenny Mcintosh ran for 143 yards and a TD on 19 carries for the Bulldogs (11-0, 8-0 Southeaste­rn), who capped a second straight unbeaten league season. The Wildcats (6-5, 3-5) were outgained 365-297 in yards of offense.

■ No. 2 Ohio State 43, Maryland 30: At College Park, Md., Dallan Hayden ran for 146 yards and three second-half TDS for the Buckeyes (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten), who trailed 13-10 at halftime and were up 33-30 with 6:36 left. Taulia Tagovailoa threw for 293 yards and two TDS and ran for a score for the Terrapins (6-5, 3-5).

■ South Carolina 63, No. 5 Tennessee 38: At Columbia, S.C., Spencer Rattler threw for 438 yards and six TDS for the Gamecocks (7-4, 4-4 SEC). The Volunteers (9-2, 6-2) lost QB Hendon Hooker to a noncontact leg injury in the fourth quarter after he’d thrown for 247 yards and three TDS.

■ No. 8 Alabama 34, Austin Peay 0: At Tuscaloosa, Ala., Jase Mcclellan ran for 156 yards and two TDS, and wide receiver Jermaine Burton had seven catches for 128 yards and two TDS for the Crimson Tide (9-2), who held the Governors (7-4) to 206 yards of offense.

■ No. 9 Clemson 40, Miami 10: At Clemson, S.C., D.J. Uiagalelei threw for 227 yards and two TDS and ran for 89 yards and a TD for the Tigers (10-1, 8-0 Atlantic Coast), who held the Hurricanes (5-6, 3-4) to 98 yards of offense.

■ No. 11 Penn State 55, Rutgers 10: At Piscataway, N.J., Sean Clifford ran for a TD and threw for another for the Nittany Lions (9-2, 6-2 Big Ten), who scored twice on fumble returns and once on freshman Nick Singleton’s 100-yard kickoff return in their 16th straight win over the Scarlet Knights (4-7, 1-7).

■ Georgia Tech 21, No. 13 North Carolina 17: At Chapel Hill, N.C., defensive end Keion White had three sacks for the Yellow Jackets (5-6, 4-4 ACC), who overcame a 17-0 firsthalf deficit with three rushing TDS. Freshman Drake Maye absorbed six sacks for the Tar Heels (9-2, 6-1).

■ Arkansas 42, No. 14 Misssissip­pi 27: At Fayettevil­le, Ark., Rocket Sanders ran for 232 yards and three TDS, including a 68-yard score, for the Razorbacks (6-5, 3-4), who led 35-6 at halftime. Quinshon Judkins ran for 214 yards and Zach Evans for 207 for the Rebels (8-3, 4-3).

■ Navy 17, No. 17 Central Florida 14: At Orlando, Fla., fullback Daba Fofana ran for 114 yards for the Midshipmen (4-7, 4-4 American Athletic), who had 248 yards rushing and didn’t complete a pass. The Knights (8-3, 5-2) absorbed four sacks by linebacker John Marshall, who also forced a fumble.

■ No. 18 Notre Dame 44, Boston College 0: At South Bend, Ind., cornerback Benjamin Morrison had three intercepti­ons for the Fighting Irish (8-3), who had a 437-173 edge in yards of offense in their ninth straight win over the Eagles (3-8). Notre Dame led 37-0 at halftime.

■ No. 19 Kansas State 48, West Virginia 31: At Morgantown,

W.VA., Will Howard threw for 294 yards and two TDS and ran for a score for the Wildcats (8-3, 6-2 Big 12), who led 41-25 at halftime. Wide receiver Sam James had three catches for 102 yards and three TDS for the Mountainee­rs (4-7, 2-6).

■ No. 20 Florida State 49,

Louisiana-lafayette 17: At Tallahasse­e, Fla., Jordan Travis and Treshaun Ward each had two first-half TD runs for the Seminoles (8-3) in their fourth straight double-digit win. The Ragin’ Cajuns (5-6) had five punts, two turnovers on downs and a lost fumble on their first eight drives.

■ No. 22 Cincinnati 23, Temple 3: At Philadelph­ia, safeties Jacob Dingle and Bryon Threats each had an intercepti­on, and defensive end Noah Potter and defensive tackle Dontay Corleone each recovered a fumble for the Bearcats (9-2, 6-1), who held the Owls (3-8, 1-6) to 35 yards rushing.

■ Oklahoma 28, No. 24 Oklahoma State 13: At Norman, Okla., Dillon Gabriel passed for two TDS and ran for a score for the Sooners (6-5, 3-5 Big 12), who led 28-0 in the first quarter. Spencer Sanders threw for 381 yards and a TD with four intercepti­ons for the Cowboys (7-4, 4-4).

■ No. 25 Oregon State 31, Arizona State 7: At Tempe, Ariz., Damien Martinez ran for 137 yards and two TDS for the Beavers (8-3, 5-3 Pac-12), who had been 1-19 on the road against the Sun Devils (3-8, 2-6).

MOUNTAIN WEST

■ Boise State 20, Wyoming 17: At Laramie, Wyo., Taylen Green ran for a third-quarter TD and threw a go-ahead 38yard TD pass to wide receiver Billy Bowens with 7:20 left for the Broncos (8-3, 7-0), who held a 480-308 edge in yards of offense. Titus Swen ran for 212 yards on 19 carries, including an 83-yard TD, for the Cowboys (7-4, 5-2).

■ San Diego State 34, New Mexico 10: At Albuquerqu­e, N.M., wide receiver Mekhi Shaw had six catches for 120 yards and two TDS for the Aztecs (7-4, 5-2), who dealt the Lobos (2-9, 0-7) their 11th straight league loss Friday.
