WARREN HAGMAN

-

Warren Leslie Hagman passed away December 21, 2022 with his family by his side. Hewasbornon August 4, 1949 in Butte Montana to Felix (Phil) and Glennie Hagman. Warren was raised in "Butte America" and was a product of the Butte Public Schools. He attended Montana State University, and graduated with a BS in mathematics and teaching certificate in May 1971.

In September 1969, Warren met his wife Wendy on a blind date in Moscow, Idaho at a football game. Warren and Wendy were wed in August of 1971. Warren accepted a teaching contract in Alaska in July of 1971. He and Wendy immediately left for Alaska in their new truck with all of their belongings in the back. Their honeymoon was a camping trip up the Alaska Highway.

Warren worked for 19 years for the Anchorage Borough School District as a teacher and then as an assistant principal for athletics and activities. He was also instrumental in helping create the AIAA. Along the way, Warren got his masters at UAA in school administration.

Warren and Wendy introduced their daughter, Aleta, to the world in August 1980 and their son, Shelby, in July 1982. Warren's kids were his pride and joy. He raised them to be active in school, sports, and their community and to take pride in their academics. Both Aleta and Shelby were valedictorians of their high schools and both attended UNR for their undergraduate degrees. Warren was a soccer dad for both kids before it was cool. He also supported Shelby as he earned his black belt in Karate. Warren was the famous "Girl Scout dad" and helped facilitate many adventures and shenanigans for the Girl Scouts who wanted to do Boy Scout things.

In 1990, Warren retired from ABSD and moved to Las Vegas to join Wendy and their children. The trip to Las Vegas involved a truck and an extended camping trip down the Alaska Highway in reverse of his honeymoon. Wendy and the children joined him for this adventure.

Warren dabbled with supervising student teachers for UNLV before going to work for Clark County School District as an assistant principal at Eldorado HS. He assisted Dr. Gail Dixon in opening Mojave HS. From there he spent time at Centennial HS, Western HS and finished his CCSD career at Liberty HS. Along the way he mentored many teachers and coaches, often pushing them out of their comfort zones. Warren loved a good casino breakfast, and could be found enjoying an early morning power meal with his posse well into retirement. In December of 2014, he was inducted into the NIAAA Athletics Hall of Fame for his hard work. After retiring from CCSD he worked full time at Touro University until May of 2018.

Warren is fondly remembered for his witty sense of humor, sage words of advice and steadfast devotion to friends and family. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a future date.

Warren is survived by his wife, Wendy, of 51 years; daughter Aleta, her husband Ben; son Shelby, his wife Teri, two granddaughters, Mae and Penny; and close family friend affectionately known as "other daughter" Gen, and her husband Pat.

Warren loved the outdoors and throughout his life he and Wendy put many miles on their truck and camper typically visiting fire lookout towers and National Parks. Donations in Warren's memory can be made to the National Park Conservation Association or The Buck Rock Foundation.
