Balanced Texas hammers Kansas for Big 12 title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

Dylan Disu overcame early foul trouble to score 18 points, Marcus Carr and Sir’jabari Rice each added 17, and No. 7 Texas silenced a heavily pro-kansas crowd with a 76-56 romp over the No. 3 Jayhawks in the Big 12 tournament title game Saturday.

After going more than two decades without a Big 12 tourney title, the Longhorns (26-8) have won two of the past three and likely wrapped up a No. 2 NCAA Tournament seed. Jalen Wilson scored 24 points for the top-seeded Jayhawks (27-7), who had won 13 of their previous 16 trips to the Big 12 finals.

■ No. 1 Houston 69, Cincinnati 48: At Fort Worth, Texas, the top-seeded Cougars (312) reached their fifth straight AAC tournament title game despite losing league player of the year Marcus Sasser to a first-half groin injury. They’ll face second-seeded Memphis (25-8) in the final. The fourth-seeded Bearcats (2112) shot 25.5 percent.

■ No. 4 Alabama 72, No. 25 Missouri 61: At Nashville, Tenn., Brandon Miller had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the top-seeded Crimson Tide (28-5), who halted a five-game win streak by the fourth-seeded Tigers (24-9) in an SEC tournament semifinal. D’moi Hodge led Missouri with 21 points.

■ No. 5 Purdue 80, Ohio State 66: At Chicago, Zach Edey had 32 points and 14 rebounds for the top-seeded Boilermake­rs (28-5), who moved to the Big Ten tournament final for a second straight year. Freshman

Roddy Gayle Jr. scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half for the 13th-seeded Buckeyes (16-19).

■ No. 6 Marquette 65, No. 15 Xavier 51: At New York, Tyler Kolek had 20 points and eight rebounds for the top-seeded Golden Eagles (28-6), who won their first Big East tournament title with their ninth straight victory. The second-seeded Musketeers (25-9) had their fivegame win streak halted.

■ No. 21 Duke 59, No. 13 Virginia 49: At Greensboro, N.C., Kyle Filipowski had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the fourth-seeded Blue Devils (26-8), who won their 22nd ACC tournament title. The second-seeded Cavaliers (257) shot 33.3 percent.

■ No. 18 Texas A&M 87,

Vanderbilt 75: At Nashville, Tenn., Wade Taylor IV scored 25 points for the second-seeded Aggies (258), who moved to the SEC tournament final for a second straight year. The sixth-seeded Commodores (20-14) had won 10 of their previous 11 games.

■ Penn State 77, No. 19 Indiana 73: At Chicago, Jalen

Pickett scored 28 points for the 10th-seeded Nittany Lions (22-12), who hit 23 of 26 free throws and moved to the Big Ten tournament title game with their eighth win in nine games. Trayce Jackson-davis had 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the third-seeded Hoosiers (2211).

■ Howard 65, Norfolk

State 64: At Norfolk, Va., Jelani Williams hit two free throws with 6.1 seconds left and totaled 20 points for the top-seeded Bison (22-12), who won the MEAC tournament title and gained their first NCAA Tournament berth in 31 years. The third-seeded Spartans (22-12) led by four with 23.7 seconds left. Neither team led by more than six.

■ Vermont 72, Massachuse­tts-lowell 59: At Burlington, Vt., Dylan Penn scored 21 points for the top-seeded Catamounts (23-10), who won their 15th straight game and the American East tournament title. The second-seeded River Hawks (26-8) finished runner-up for the second time in three years.

■ Kent State 93, Toledo 78: At Cleveland, Sincere

Carry scored 26 points for the second-seeded Golden Flashes (28-6), who won their first MAC tournament title since 2017 and halted a 17-game win streak by the top-seeded Rockets (27-7). Toledo is 0-6 in MAC title games since last winning in 1980.

■ Texas Southern 61, Grambling State 58: At Birmingham, Ala., P.J. Henry scored 19 points for Texas Southern (14-20), which became the first eighth seed to win the SWAC tournament and denied second-seeded Grambling State (24-9) its first NCAA Tournament berth.

■ Iona 76, Marist 55: At Atlantic City, N.J., Daniss Jenkins scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half for the top-seeded Gaels (27-7), who didn’t trail in the MAAC tournament title game. The 11th-seeded Red Foxes (1320) were in their first MAAC title game.

Women

■ Hawaii 61, UC Santa

Barbara 59: At Dollar Loan Center, Daejah Phillips converted a go-ahead three-point play with three seconds left for the third-seeded Rainbow Wahine (18-14), who trailed by 15 at halftime and by 10 entering the fourth quarter in the Big West final. Phillips and Lily Wahinekapu each scored 19 points for Hawaii. Alexis Tucker had 21 points for the fifth-seeded Gauchos (21-12), who had a 36-26 edge in rebounds.

■ Southern Utah 82, California Baptist 73: At Orleans Arena, Cherita Daughterty had 26 points and eight rebounds for the second-seeded Thunderbir­ds (23-9), who shot 49.1 percent in the WAC tournament final. Chloe Webb scored 21 points for the fourth-seeded Lancers (1913), who were outrebound­ed 45-33.
