Bruins rally, secure 50th win in record 64th game

Garnet Hathaway scored the go-ahead goal with 6:06 left to lift host Boston past Detroit 3-2, giving the Bruins their 50th win of the season and making them the fastest NHL team to ever reach the milestone. Boston, which also clinched a playoff berth, needed 64 games to reach 50 wins — beating the record of 66 set by the 1995-96 Red Wings and matched by Tampa Bay in 2018-19.

■ Rangers 2, Sabres 1, OT: At Buffalo, N.Y., Artemi Panarin converted a blocked shot to score a power-play goal 2:02 into overtime, and Patrick Kane scored his second goal in four games with New York, which didn’t lead until the final score for a second straight game.

■ Lightning 3, Blackhawks 1: At Tampa, Fla., Brayden Point scored his second goal of the night with a minute left to break a 1-all tie. Tampa Bay lost captain Steven Stamkos, its career leader in goals and points, to a left leg injury in the first period.

■ Penguins 5, Flyers 1: At Pittsburgh, Las Vegas product Jason Zucker scored his 10th goal in the past 12 games for Pittsburgh to back Casey Desmith, who had 31 saves. Philadelph­ia lost its third straight and seventh in eight games.

■ Devils 3, Canadiens 1: At Montreal, Nico Hischier had a goal and an assist to back Akira Schmid, who had 23 saves, as New Jersey moved to 6-1-1 in its past eight games and dealt Montreal its sixth straight loss.

■ Avalanche 3, Coyotes 2, OT: At Denver, Cale Makar scored 1:38 into overtime, and Nathan Mackinnon ran his franchise-record home goals streak to nine games and his home point streak to 16 games.

■ Blues 5, Blue Jackets 2: At Columbus, Ohio, Jordan Kyrou scored three goals to back Thomas Greiss, who stopped 38 shots, as St. Louis won its second straight after losing eight of nine.

■ Jets 5, Panthers 4, OT: At Sunrise, Fla., Mark Scheifele scored his second goal of the night with 29 seconds left in overtime, halting Florida’s three-game win streak.

■ Capitals 5, Islanders 1: At New York, Dylan Strome and Anthony Mantha each had a goal and an assist as Washington ended New York’s three-game win streak.

■ Maple Leafs 7, Oilers 4: At Toronto, John Tavares scored two of Toronto’s four second-period goals as the Leafs overcame a 3-1 deficit.
