FRED MARIK December 24, 1937- March 9, 2023

-

Fred lost his battle with heart disease, but not before they waved the checkered flag. He finished the race. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Fred, knew the sound and thunder of victory. Fred devoted himself to helping others. He had a glint in his blue eyes, and a big heart. Along with his wicked wit, he could recite chapter and verse on any subject, because his mind was so sharp. His friends tagged him “the encyclopedia”. Fred was born to Jerry and Wilma, Marik on Christmas Eve 1937. Christmas was his favorite holiday. He made sure that everyone not only marked the holiday but enjoyed it with him. His career pretty much spanned his lifetime; starting out as the first marketing director for Nascar. It would prove to be his first and last love in life. He made such strides in marketing for racing that his contributions to the business still live on today. After Nascar, Fred turned his talents to Penske Motor Racing, known today as Team Penske, and one of the most successful motor sports teams in history. He was also President of Bell Helmets, where he was able to make many safety implementations and create a standard for the industry. Fred introduced the bike helmet which is still in use today. He published several magazines, during latter years. He put his mathematical expertise to work in his final tenure as a business broker with Las Vegas Commercial & Business Sales, selling businesses. Whatever Fred took on he did it with his whole heart and soul. That legacy lives on with all of us who were lucky enough to experience his kindness and friendship. He was predeceased by his mother, father, first wife, Pat, and numerous Aunts and Uncles. He is survived by his daughter Summer Williams (Adam), Rich Marik, Barbie Hummel, (Chris), two granddaughters Hannah Marik, and Riley Hummel, his ex wife and mother to Summer, Katie Winters, sister Judy De Pasquale, niece Carol De Pasquale, niece Debbie Dennowitz (Andy), many great nieces and nephews, and his partner for 20 years, Betsey Bell. The family asks that donations be made in the memory of Fred Marik, City of Hopes’ past Man of the Year. If friends and family prefer to mail: Mail to: City of Hope Attn: Annual Giving 1500 E.
