Gorman’s 2016 team No. 3 on all-time football ranking

The 2016 Bishop Gorman team is ranked third on ESPN’S list of the top 50 high school football teams of all time that was released Saturday. The 2001 De La Salle (California) team is No. 1, followed by the 1940 Massillon Washington (Ohio) team at No. 2. Gorman went 15-0 in 2016 and claimed its third straight USA Today national title. The Gaels beat Liberty 84-8 in the Class 4A state title game.

■ NFL: At East Rutherford, N.J., Aaron Rodgers capped his second series with the New York Jets by throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Garrett Wilson in the first quarter of the Jets’ 32-24 win over the New York Giants. Rodgers went 5 of 8 for 47 yards over two series in his first preseason game since 2018 with Green Bay.

■ Track and field: At Budapest, Hungary, Sha’carri Richardson and Noah Lyles anchored the United States to backto-back wins in the 400-meter relays, giving the Americans a relay sweep at the world championsh­ips for the first time since 2007. Lyles is the first man since Jamaica’s Usain Bolt in 2015 to win the 100, 200 and 400 relay at worlds.

■ Horse racing: At Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Arcangelo won the $1.25 million Travers Stakes by a length, giving trainer Jena Antonucci her second major Grade 1 victory after the colt won the Belmont Stakes. Preakness winner National Treasure was fifth and Kentucky Derby winner Mage last in the seven-horse field.

■ Golf: At Vancouver, British Columbia, Megan Khang birdied four of her last five holes in a 4-under-par 68 for an 11-under 205 total and a three-stroke lead ahead of the CPKC Women’s Open’s final round. The 25-year-old seeks her first LPGA Tour win.

■ Boxing: At Wroclaw, Poland, 36-year-old Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 knockouts) retained his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweigh­t titles by stopping 25-year-old British challenger Daniel Dubois (19-2, 18 KOS) in the ninth round.

■ Gymnastics: At San Jose, Calif., 19-year-old Stanford sophomore Asher Hong won his first national title, posting a two-day total of 170.930 to become the first teenager to win a men’s all-around national title since John Orozco in 2012.

■ Volleyball: At Boulder, Colo., Treyaunna Rush had 12 kills to help North Texas top UNLV 25-20, 29-27, 25-22. Gabrielle Arretche-ramos had 11 kills for the Rebels (1-1). The Mean Green (2-0) held a .240 to .143 edge in hitting.
