Williams throw for five TDS as USC routs UNR

LOS ANGELES — Caleb Williams threw for 319 yards and hit wide receiver Tahj Washington with two of his five touchdown passes, leading No. 6 Southern California past UNR 66-14 on Saturday.

Bishop Gorman product Zachariah Branch, Michael Jackson III and Brenden Rice also caught TD passes from their Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbac­k as the Trojans (2-0) followed their blowout of San Jose State with another rout of a Mountain West opponent.

USC’S 668 yards were its most under coach Lincoln Riley, and its 66 points matched the highest-scoring game of his tenure.

Williams passed for 258 yards and four TDS on 15 completion­s while USC built a 35-7 halftime lead. He finished 18 of 24 while also rushing for 42 yards.

Brendon Lewis passed for 182 yards for the Wolf Pack (0-1), who scored on their opening drive before yielding 45 straight points.

■ Fresno State 39, Purdue 35: At West Lafayette, Ind., Central Florida transfer Mikey Keene threw a goahead 22-yard TD pass to wide receiver Erik Brooks with 58 seconds left for the Bulldogs (1-0). Keene passed for 366 yards and four TDS, and Brooks had nine catches for 170 yards. The Boilermake­rs (0-1), who led 28-17 in the third quarter, were outgained 487-363 in yards of offense.

■ No. 25 Iowa 24, Utah State 14: At Iowa City, Iowa, Cade Mcnamara capped each of the first two drives by the Hawkeyes (1-0) with TD passes, and they didn’t reach the end zone again until the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Terrell Vaughn had 12 catches for 93 yards and a TD with 1:36 left for the Aggies (0-1).

■ Stanford 37, Hawaii 24: At Honolulu, tight end Benjami Yurosek had nine catches for 138 yards, including a 32-yard TD 2:36 into the second quarter that put the Cardinal (1-0) ahead to stay. Brayden Schager threw for 355 yards and three TDS for the Rainbow Warriors (0-2).

■ Air Force 42, Robert Morris 7: At Colorado Springs, Colo., Zac Larrier ran for two TDS and threw an 84-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Jred Roznos as the Falcons (1-0) won their 16th straight opener. The Colonials (0-1) were outgained 469-156 in yards of offense.

■ Washington State 50, Colorado State 24: At Fort Collins, Colo., Cameron Ward threw for 451 yards and three TDS and ran for a score for the Cougars (1-0). Kobe Johnson returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 98 yards for a TD for the Rams (0-1).

■ No. 10 Washington 56, Boise State 19: At Seattle, Michael Penix Jr. threw for 450 yards and five TDS for the Huskies (1-0). The Broncos (0-1) yielded their most points since an overtime win over UNR in 2007.

■ No. 23 Texas A&M 52, New Mexico 10: At College Station, Texas, Conner Weigman threw for 236 yards and five TDS as the Aggies (1-0) scored TDS on their first five possession­s. The Lobos (0-1) lost their 10th straight.
