No. 8 USC blunts Colorado rally

BOULDER, Colo. — Caleb Williams threw for 403 yards and tied a career high with six TD passes as No. 8 Southern California held off Colorado 48-41 on Saturday.

Leading 34-7 in the second quarter, the Trojans (5-0, 3-0 Pac-12) saw the Buffaloes (3-2, 0-2) storm back to make it a one-score game with 1:43 left on Shedeur Sanders’ 16-yard TD strike to wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. USC recovered the ensuing onside kick.

The Trojans improved to 17-0 against Colorado, a 21½-point underdog, which lost for a second straight week after a 3-0 start that made Deion Sanders’ team college football’s biggest story.

Williams completed 17 straight passes at one point. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner spread around the wealth, throwing TD passes to five receivers as Coach Prime’s house full of celebrity guests watched.

Williams also threw his first intercepti­on this season when safety Cam’ron Silmon-craig picked him off late in the third quarter.

Shedeur Sanders passed for 371 yards and four TDS, along with a 25-yard scamper for a score just before halftime. The Buffaloes fell behind by 27 after an intercepti­on and a blocked punt, both deep in their territory, late in the second quarter.

■ No. 2 Michigan 45, Nebraska 7: At Lincoln, Neb., J.J. Mccarthy threw two TD passes to wide receiver Roman Wilson and ran for a score for the Wolverines (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten), who had 249 yards rushing. Joshua Fleeks had a 74-yard TD run with 4:17 left for the Cornhusker­s (2-3, 0-2).

■ No. 3 Texas 40, No. 24 Kansas 14: At Austin, Texas, Jonathon Brooks ran for 217 yards and two TDS for the Longhorns (5-0, 2-0 Big 12), who amassed 661 yards of offense. The Jayhawks (4-1, 1-1) were without standout QB Jalon Daniels (stiff back).

■ No. 6 Penn State 41, Northweste­rn 13: At Evanston, Ill., Drew Allar threw for 189 yards and a TD and ran for a score for

the Nittany Lions (5-0, 3-0 Big Ten) in their 10th straight win. The Wildcats (2-3, 1-2) managed 175 yards against the nation’s No. 1 defense.

■ No. 9 Oregon 42, Stanford

6: At Stanford, Calif., Bo Nix threw for 290 yards and three TDS for the Ducks (5-0, 2-0 Pac12), who scored TDS on six of seven drives after a slow start. The Cardinal (1-4, 0-3) didn’t yield a first down in the opening 20 minutes.

17 Duke 14: At Durham, N.C., Audric Estime sneaked through a crowd and broke a 30-yard TD run with 31 seconds left for the Fighting Irish (5-1). The Blue Devils (4-1) were outgained 381323 in yards of offense.

13 Louisiana State 49: At Oxford, Miss., Jaxson Dart threw for four TDS, including a go-ahead 13-yarder to wide receiver Tre Harris with 39 seconds left, for the Rebels (4-1, 1-1 SEC). Jayden Daniels threw for 414 yards and four TDS, three to wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., for the Tigers (3-2, 2-1).

■ No. 14 Oklahoma 50, Iowa

State 20: At Norman, Okla., Dillon Gabriel passed for 366 yards and three TDS and ran for two scores for the Sooners (5-0, 2-0 Big 12), who shut out the Cyclones (2-3, 1-1) after they’d pulled within 21-20 in the second quarter.

■ No. 21 Tennessee 41, South Carolina 20: At Knoxville, Tenn., Jaylen Wright ran for 123 yards and a TD for the Volunteers (4-1, 1-1 SEC). Spencer Rattler absorbed six sacks for the Gamecocks (2-3, 1-2).

■ Kentucky 33, No. 22

Florida 14: At Lexington, Ky., Ray Davis ran for 280 yards and scored four TDS for the Wildcats (5-0, 2-0 SEC) in their third straight win over the Gators (32, 1-1). Kentucky had 398 yards of offense against a defense that had yielded a league-low 224 per game.

■ No. 23 Missouri 38, Vanderbilt 21: At Nashville, Tenn., Brady Cook threw for 395 yards and four TDS for the Tigers (5-0, 1-0 SEC), who held a 532-300 edge in yards of offense and dealt the Commodores (2-4, 0-2) their fourth straight loss.

Mountain West

■ Memphis 35, Boise State

32: At Memphis, Tenn., the Tigers (4-1) took their first lead when linebacker Geoffrey Cantin-arku blocked a field goal and returned it 80 yards for a TD with 1:43 left in the third quarter. Running back Ashton Jeanty had two TD runs and two TD catches while totaling 135 yards of offense for the Broncos (2-3).

■ Utah State 34, Connecticu­t 33: At East Hartford, Conn., safety Ike Larson blocked an extra-point try with 40 seconds left for the Aggies (2-3), who overcame a 17-point deficit. The Huskies (0-5) yielded 97 yards of first-half offense. Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals had seven catches for 185 yards and three TDS.

■ Air Force 49, San Diego

State 10: At Air Force Academy, Colo., Zac Larrier threw 54- and 53-yard TD passes in the third quarter, and Emmanuel Michel ran for two scores for the Falcons (5-0, 3-0), who held the Aztecs (2-4, 0-2) to 227 yards of offense.

■ Wyoming 35, New Mexico 26: At Laramie, Wyo., Harrison Waylee ran for 191 yards, including a 46-yard TD in which he broke several tackles, for the Cowboys (4-1, 1-0). The Lobos (2-3, 0-1) were outgained 433417 in yards of offense.

■ Colorado State 41, Utah Tech 20: At Fort Collins, Colo., wide receiver Tory Horton had 10 catches for 227 yards and three TDS for the Rams (2-2), who had 586 yards of offense. The Trailblaze­rs (1-4) totaled 349 yards of offense.
