Garbers, UCLA rally in second half, throttle Boise State

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Ethan Garbers threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns after coming in early in the second half, and T.J. Harden rushed for 105 yards and two TDS as UCLA rallied past Boise State 35-22 in the LA Bowl on Saturday.

The Bruins (8-5) trailed 16-7 at intermissi­on and scored on their first three second-half drives. UCLA wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant had four catches for 142 yards, including a 40-yard TD midway through the fourth quarter.

George Holani ran for 138 yards on 17 carries and scored both TDS for the Broncos (8-6), who had won four straight games to claim the Mountain West title and earn the automatic bid to the bowl.

BSU quarterbac­k C.J. Tiller was 12 of 21 for 117 yards in his first collegiate start.

Garbers entered with 11:25 left in the third quarter after starter Collin Schlee was injured taking a hit on a 44-yard run.

Garbers, a junior who started six games this season, completed his first eight passes, including a 5-yard TD to wide receiver Kyle Ford three plays after entering.

Garbers finished 9 of 12. Schlee had 127 yards on seven carries and was 11 of 16 passing for 78 yards and a TD.

New Mexico Bowl

■ Fresno State 37, New Mexico

State 10: At Albuquerqu­e, N.M., Mikey Keene threw for 380 yards and three TDS and ran for a score for the Bulldogs (9-4), who halted a threegame skid with their fifth straight bowl win. Keene completed his first 15 passes and finished 31 of 39. FSU running back Malik Sherrod rushed for 90 yards and had eight catches for 81 yards. The Aggies (10-5), who reached double digits in wins for the first time since 1960, didn’t top 100 yards of offense until midway through the third quarter and totaled 200.

New Orleans Bowl

■ Jacksonvil­le State 34, Louisiana-lafayette 31, OT: At New Orleans, Zion Webb completed a fourth-down pass to wide receiver Perry Carter for a tying 18-yard TD with 1:46 left in regulation for the Gamecocks (9-4), who won on Garrison Rippa’s 27-yard field goal in overtime. The Ragin’ Cajuns (6-7) were outgained 510-247 in regulation but forced four turnovers — and returned three for TDS. JSU converted on five of six fourthdown tries.

Cure Bowl

■ Appalachia­n State 13, Miami

(Ohio) 9: At Orlando, Fla., Joey Aguilar threw for 197 yards and scored on an 8-yard run in the third quarter for the Mountainee­rs (9-5) in a rainy game that had 13 fumbles, with the Redhawks (11-3) losing three and ASU two. Rashad Amos ran for 180 yards and a TD on 33 carries for Miami. Anderson Castle rushed for 119 yards on 18 carries for the Mountainee­rs.

■ Florida A&M 30, Howard 26:

At Atlanta, Jeremy Moussa threw three fourth-quarter TD passes, including 21- and 53-yarders to running back Kelvin Dean Jr., to rally the Rattlers (12-1) to their 11th straight win. The Bison (6-6), who led 14-0 in the first quarter and 16-10 to open the fourth, went up 26-24 on cornerback Carson Hinton’s 26-yard intercepti­on return for a TD.

Myrtle Beach Bowl

■ Ohio 41, Georgia Southern 21:

At Conway, S.C., freshman Rickey Hunt ran for 115 yards and four TDS and had an 18-yard TD catch for the Bobcats (10-3), who forced five turnovers, had five sacks and won their fifth straight bowl game. The Eagles (6-7) totaled 35 yards of offense in the first half and trailed 27-0 in the third quarter.
