Backup goalie shines as Dallas coasts past Kings

Scott Wedgewood stopped 27 shots to win a matchup of backup goaltender­s, and defenseman Thomas Harley had a goal and an assist as host Dallas topped Los Angeles 4-1 on Saturday.

Wedgewood beat the Kings for a second time in eight days. David Rittich had 25 saves for Los Angeles, which was outscored 13-3 while getting swept by the Stars their three-game season series.

Craig Smith, Wyatt Johnston and Jamie Benn score for Dallas, which took a 3-0 first-period lead and avoided losing a third straight game in regulation for the first time since April 2022.

■ Hurricanes 5, Maple Leafs 4, SO: At Toronto, Sebastian Aho scored twice in the final 1:32 of regulation, including the tying goal with seven seconds left, for Carolina in its fifth win in six games. Jake Guentzel had two assists and scored the decisive shootout goal.

■ Blues 3, Wild 2, SO: At St. Louis, Jordan Kyrou had a goal and an assist in regulation and scored the decisive shootout goal in St. Louis’ third straight win. Kirill Kaprizov had a goal and an assist for Minnesota, which is 5-0-2 in its past seven games.

■ Red Wings 4, Sabres 1: At Detroit, Patrick Kane scored to break a 1-all tie with 2:20 left in the second period as Detroit halted its seven-game slide and Buffalo’s three-game win streak.

■ Rangers 7, Penguins 4: At Pittsburgh, Artemi Panarin had two goals and three assists as New York won for the fourth time in five games and dealt Pittsburgh its fifth loss in six games.

■ Coyotes 4, Devils 1: At Tempe, Ariz., Nick Schmaltz assisted on three firstperio­d goals to back Karel Vejmelka, who stopped 37 shots. New Jersey lost for the sixth time in eight games.

■ Senators 4, Islanders 3, OT: At New York, Brady Tkachuk capped a hat trick by scoring a power-play goal with 24 seconds left in overtime, and Ottawa won its third straight.

■ Lightning 5, Panthers 3: At Sunrise, Fla., Steven Stamkos had two goals and two assists to back Andrei Vasilevski­y, who had 47 saves in Tampa Bay’s third straight win.

■ Blue Jackets 4, Sharks 2: At Columbus, Ohio, Alexander Nylander had two goals and an assist as San Jose lost its third straight and 12th in 13 games.

■ Flames 5, Canadiens 2: At Calgary, Alberta, Mikael Backlund had two goals and an assist to back Dustin Wolf, who stopped 36 shots.

■ Bruins 6, Flyers 5: At Boston, Charlie Coyle scored twice to help Boston build a 5-2 lead in its fourth win in five games.
