Rangers’ Quick breaks wins record for U.s.-born goalies

Alexis Lafreniere had three goals and two assists for New York, and Jonathan Quick broke the victory record for U.s.-born goalies as the Nhl-leading Rangers reached 50 wins this season, beating Arizona 8-5 on Saturday in Tempe, Arizona.

Quick, who played 10 games for the Golden Knights last season, stopped 27 shots in moving past Ryan Miller with his 392nd victory. Artemi Panarin had an empty-net goal and two assists for New York, which won its fifth straight and seventh in eight games.

With the score tied at 3 in the third period, the Rangers scored three times in the first 10 minutes. The Rangers finished March 10-3-1 and are 20-4-1 since February.

■ Maple Leafs 3, Sabres 0: At Buffalo, N.Y., Ilya Samsonov stopped 34 shots in his 13th shutout and third this season, and Auston Matthews scored his Nhl-best 60th goal this season, becoming the league’s first two-time 60-goal scorer since Pavel Bure acheived the feat for Vancouver in 199293 and ’93-94.

■ Panthers 3, Red Wings 2, SO: At Sunrise, Fla., Sam Reinhart scored the lone shootout goal after Aleksander Barkov had two third-period goals for Florida, which had a 38-22 edge in shots through overtime and won for the second time in eight games. Detroit lost its fourth in a row.

■ Blackhawks 5, Flyers 1: At Philadelph­ia, Philipp Kurashev, Joey Anderson and Lukas Reichel each had a goal and an assist to back Arvid Soderblom, who stopped 29 shots in Chicago’s third win in four games. Philadelph­ia lost its fourth in a row and seventh in eight games.

■ Sharks 4, Blues 0: At St. Louis, Mackenzie Blackwood had 35 saves in his 10th shutout and second this season, and San Jose overcame a 3520 shots disadvanta­ge to halt a nine-game slide with its second win in 20 games. St. Louis was 7-1-1 in its previous nine games.

■ Avalanche 7, Predators 4: At Denver, Nathan Mackinnon had two goals and two assists for Colorado, which moved to 10-1-1 in its past 12 games and clinched a playoff berth. Nashville lost its second straight after its franchise-record 18-game point streak ended.

■ Hurricanes 3, Canadiens 0: At Montreal, Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 26 shots in his eighth shutout and fourth this season, and Jordan Staal opened the scoring with a short-handed goal midway through the second period. Montreal’s three-game win streak ended.

■ Oilers 6, Ducks 1: At Edmonton, Alberta, Connor Mcdavid had two goals and an assist to back Calvin Pickard, who stopped 22 shots in Edmonton’s third straight win and fifth in seven games. Anaheim lost its fourth in a row and 11th in 12 games.

■ Lightning 4, Islanders 1: At Tampa, Fla., Anthony Cirelli had two goals and an assist, and Steven Stamkos scored to reach 30 goals for a ninth season for Tampa Bay, which moved to 8-0-1 in its past nine games. New York is 2-7-1 in its past 10.

■ Blue Jackets 4, Penguins 3, SO: At Columbus, Ohio, Alexandre Texier and Damon Severson scored in the shootout for Columbus, which overcame a two-goal third-period deficit and halted a six-game slide with its second win in 11 games.

■ Bruins 3, Capitals 2, SO: At Washington, Kevin Shattenkir­k scored the shootout winner as Boston leapfrogge­d Florida into first place in the Atlantic Division. Washington had won three of its previous four games.

■ Senators 3, Jets 2: At Winnipeg, Manitoba, Brady Tkachuk scored the go-ahead goal on a power play with 1:45 left for Ottawa, which won its fifth straight and dealt Winnipeg its sixth loss in a row.
