Interior secretary to address tribal conference in Reno

New Interior Secretary Sally Jewell will address the National Congress of American Indians at its mid-year conference this week in Reno.

Jewell is scheduled to speak at the closing session of the conference on Thursday morning at the Atlantis Casino & Resort. The four-day conference begins today.

Returning to Reno for the first time in five years, the NCAI will host from 800 to 1,000 citizens, advocates and leaders from tribal nations, communitie­s and government to address the most pressing issues facing tribes.

The conference’s annual Tribal Leader/Scholar Forum will feature new research by tribal profession­als and students on science, climate change, natural resources, technology, economic developmen­t, education and health.
