Courtney Force tops dad for NHRA Funny Car title

Courtney Force claimed a Funny Car victory against her father at the Auto-Plus NHRA New England Nationals in Epping, N.H.

In their first final-round matchup, Courtney Force earned her second victory of the year and third in her career. She improved to 4-2 against her father, John Force, a 15-time world champion.

Spencer Massey (Top Fuel), Allen Johnson (Pro Stock) and John Hall (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were winners.

Also: James Hinchcliff­e cruised to victory in the IndyCar Series race at Newton, Iowa, leading all but 24 of 250 laps. Andretti Racing teammate Ryan HunterReay was second.

Tyson Gay completed the 100200 sprint double at the U.S. track championsh­ips in Des Moines, Iowa, winning the 200meter dash in 19.74 seconds. It’s the fastest time in the world this season.

Two former UNLV athletes posted strong showings at different meets. Christine Spence took third in the 400-meter hurdles at the U.S. track championsh­ips in Des Moines. Christine Lowe took second in the 400 hurdles at the Canadian championsh­ips in Moncton, New Brunswick.
