Officials recover body where man went missing in Lake Mead

Officials Monday recovered a body in the area of Lake Mead where a 30year-old Las Vegas man was last seen swimming without a life jacket on Sunday, the National Park Service said.

Divers from the Metropolit­an Police Department recovered the body shortly before 11 a.m. The man had disappeare­d east of Callville Bay in the Virgin Basin of Lake Mead.

The identity of the body and the cause of death is pending and will come from the Clark County coroner’s office.

It is the second time in a week a swimmer has gone missing at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Neither swimmer was wearing a life jacket.

The Lake Mead Interagenc­y Communicat­ions Center received the 911 call at noon Sunday. Witnesses said that the man was swimming in a small cove with friends when he began struggling, according to officials.

The search, conducted by the National Park Service, Nevada Department of Wildlife and Callville Bay Marina, went on until 4:30 p.m. Sunday and resumed at 6 a.m. Monday with the help of Metropolit­an Police Department Search and Rescue. The incident is under investigat­ion. Officials continue to search for a missing Chicago man last seen Thursday in Boulder Basin of Lake Mead near Sentinel Island. Istvan Tibor Feichtner, 35, who wasn’t wearing a life jacket, started to struggle with high waves after jumping into the water, according to a 911 call. People are restricted from:

Building a fire outside of a developed campground or picnic area

Smoking outside of a vehicle in a developed campground or picnic area

Use of any explosive or fireworks. Officials will be aggressive­ly citing those who do not follow the restrictio­ns. Violations can result in fines of up to $10,000 or six months in jail. for Dec. 9.

The 26-year-old was driving a Hummer when it crashed into a Ford Escort around 7:30 a.m. on March 23, prosecutor­s said.

The driver of the Escort, 33-year-old James White, was killed, and his 2-yearold son suffered minor injuries.

Las Vegas police said Miller told investigat­ors she took Xanax and drank two beers at work overnight at Spearmint Rhino, a strip club.

Miller remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center on $200,000 bail.
