Paulinho, host Brazil beat Uruguay to reach Confederat­ions Cup final

Paulinho headed Brazil into the Confederat­ions Cup final with an 86th minute header to give the host nation a 2-1 victory over Uruguay in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

With the semifinal heading into extra time, Paulinho rose to meet Neymar’s corner and scored the winner.

Brazil will meet the winner of today’s match between Italy and Spain, in Fortaleza, Brazil, in Sunday’s final at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Also: Less than 24 hours after going on sale and despite prices ranging from $350 to $2,000, tickets for the Sept. 14 megafight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the 16,200-seat MGM Grand Garden are sold out, the promoter announced.

Golden Boy Promotions also announced Wednesday that the fight will be shown on closed-circuit television at six MGM Resorts Strip properties: the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Aria, The Mirage, Monte Carlo and New York-New York.

Tickets, priced at $100 plus applicable fees, go on sale Friday at the MGM Grand box office for that property’s closed-circuit telecast. Public sale for the other five properties will be announced at a later date.

Local bantamweig­ht boxers Devin Haney and Dustin Somera won their opening bouts at the Junior Olympic National Championsh­ips in Mobile, Ala.

Haney, a Junior World Team Open champion fighting at 119 pounds, defeated Nikita Ababiy of Brooklyn, N.Y., 3-0, and will face Duke Ragen of Cincinnati in today’s quarterfin­als. Somera, also competing at 119 pounds, won a 2-1 decision over Noah Kapner of Gravette, Ark., and will face Michael Dutchover of Midland, Texas, in the quarterfin­als.

Henderson’s Andres Cortes, who had a first-round bye in the 132-pound division, faces Andreas Ladd of Toledo, Ohio, in today’s lightweigh­t quarterfin­als.

The tournament runs through Saturday.
