Noriega, Almonte hits key four-run fourth inning as Rainiers beat 51s

Gabriel Noriega hit a go-ahead two-run double and scored on Abraham Almonte’s single as Tacoma scored four times in the fourth inning in a 6-4 win over Las Vegas in a Pacific Coast League game in Tacoma, Wash.

The 51s’ Wilmer Flores went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, including a two-run homer in the third inning. Allan Dykstra followed with a solo shot for the 51s (59-47).

Nick Franklin drove in two runs and Almonte scored three times for the Rainiers (51-53).

Las Vegas loaded the bases in the ninth, but Josh Satin flied out to end the game.

Also: The Las Vegas Mayhem managed just two hits and dropped a 5-0 decision to NorCal Baseball at the Connie Mack West Regional in Huntington Beach, Calif.

NorCal scored four runs in the fourth inning to pull away from Las Vegas, which had just four hits in a 2-1 win over the Southern California Renegades in its tournament opener Tuesday.

The Mayhem play the Orange County Giants at 10:30 a.m. today in an eliminatio­n game.

San Diego Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin was suspended 25 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for an amphetamin­e.

Maybin said in a statement released by the Major League Baseball Players Associatio­n the failed test was the result of a change in the medication he was using to treat attention deficit disorder.

World Cup winner Joachim Loew will remain Germany’s soccer coach through the 2016 European Championsh­ip in France.

There was speculatio­n Loew might step down after Germany lifted its fourth World Cup title with a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final in Rio de Janeiro 10 days ago, although Loew’s contract was extended well before the tournament.
