Las Vegas chefs get global praise; Joe Jonas becomes Blue Man

Two Las Vegas chefs have seen their outof-town restaurant­s lauded in the new list of the world’s best 50 restaurant­s, and a third was honored with a lifetime achievemen­t award.

Congratula­tions to Daniel Boulud from the Venetian for his award and to Thomas Keller, also from the Venetian, for having his French Laundry in Yountville, Calif., and Per Se in New York City ranked 50th and 40th, respective­ly. Alain Ducasse from Delano Las Vegas was No. 47 for his Hotel Plaza Athenee in the French capital of Paris.

San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, in concert with Britain’s Restaurant Magazine, sponsor the World’s 50 Best Restaurant­s list. The voting jury is 972 chefs, critics and food world luminaries. They nominate seven restaurant­s they’ve dined at in the past 18 months.

Sadly — and incorrectl­y — no Las Vegas restaurant made the Top 50. The No. 1 restaurant was El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain, which unseated Noma of Copenhagen, which slipped for the first time in four years from No. 1 to No. 3 this year.

The highest-ranking American restaurant at No. 5 was Eleven Madison Park in New York City owned by chef Daniel Humm, who purchased it from restaurate­ur Danny Meyer, who recently opened his growing chain of Shake Shack eateries here at New York-New York leading to the new MGMArena there now under constructi­on. vote on, and the 4.8 acres of tropical poolside oasis at the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas just off the Strip won top honors.

Rehab, Nirvana and Breathe placed first as America’s Best Hotel Pool in the reader’s choice contest and was the only Las Vegas property featured in the Top 10.

It has been praised by the Los Angeles Times as “the bestknown, biggest and craziest pool party.”

The Hard Rock Hotel pool area features 50 Tahitian style cabanas, 25 daybeds, six new poolside VIP bungalows, more than six banquettes and a regular roster of celebrity hosts and performers. Phil Stanton and Chris Wink and cast members.

This is the first time in Blue Man Group history in which non-Blue Men have been allowed to go through the bald-and-blue process with a performanc­e.

Staying true to his roots, Sydney said: “We’ve crafted a variety of new dishes for these warmer months and are working with local farmers in Southern and Northern Nevada to highlight the most exceptiona­l seasonal products. Those producers include Pahrump Honey, Boulder City’s Herbs by Diane and Northern Nevada’s Peri & Sons.”
