Coroner identifies shooter in Thursday murder-suicide
A man whose body was found with a 37-year-old man in an east valley mobile home Thursday after a murder-suicide has been identified.
Robert Ronald DeGroat, 68, of Las Vegas died of a gunshot wound of the head, the Clark County coroner’s office said. His death was ruled a suicide.
Robert was found with Chad Allen DeGroat of Las Vegas on Thursday afternoon at 1322 S. Mojave Road, near Charleston Boulevard and Pecos Road, Las Vegas police said.
Chad DeGroat was identified Friday, and his death was ruled a homicide. Police said Robert DeGroat shot and killed Chad DeGroat before turning the gun on himself.
Additional details on the relationship between the two was not available.
Officers Glen Taylor, 50, and Eli Prunchak, 41, are on routine paid administrative leave while detectives investigate the shooting, Metro said.
Police were called Friday morning to a house in the 6900 block of Berkshire Place, near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, after they received a call about a broken window at a house next door.
As they were investigating, they found Abel Correa, 24, of Las Vegas hiding in a closet, police said.
Correa, police said, sprung at officers with a sharp object and was shot. He died at University Medical Center.
Taylor has been with Metro since 2000 and Prunchak since 1999, according to police.
