At EverBank Field, Jacksonville, Fla. STORYLINE: San Diego (3-8) broke a sixgame losing streak, with Philip Rivers throwing for 300 yards and four touchdowns against the Jaguars (4-7). Rivers became the 17th quarterback in NFL history to top 40,000 career passing yards. The Chargers have lost several games on opponents’ final possessions, and there was a chance it might happen again after Jacksonville’s TD with 1:21 remaining. But San Diego recovered the onside kick to win for the first time since beating Cleveland on Oct. 4. Rivers completed 29 of 43 with a passer rating of 118 as San Diego beat Jacksonville for the fifth time in a row. The Chargers took a 21-9 halftime lead after Rivers threw three TD passes in the second quarter: 2 yards to Dontrelle Inman and 9 and 12 yards to Antonio Gates. The key scoring drive was in the fourth quarter — 80 yards in 14 plays, spanning 6:13 — and ending with a 5-yard pass to Stevie Johnson. Rivers kept the drive alive with an 8-yard scramble on fourth-and-7, diving for the first-down marker, and completed 6 of 9 on the possession. Jacksonville’s Blake Bortles was 30 of 49 for 329 yards and two TDs, both in the fourth quarter. He threw a 21-yarder to Julius Thomas with 10:58 left, then answered Rivers’ final TD pass with an 8-yarder to Allen Robinson. QUOTABLE: “What a great team win that was. It’s nice to smile again. It’s been a long time.” — Chargers coach Mike McCoy NEXT: Broncos (-3½) at Chargers, 1:05 p.m. Sunday; Jaguars at Titans (-2½), 10 a.m. Sunday
