Kim suspect in second case

-

considered a person of interest in the August kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl who said she was held captive for two weeks in the Las Vegas area, Reno officer Tim Broadway said Tuesday.

The possible second victim told police Nov. 8 at a Reno shelter for runaways that her attacker picked her up in North Las Vegas after she met him on the Internet, the Associated Press reported. Broadway could not confirm those details.

North Las Vegas police said they believe that in November Kim brought the 14-yearold, who had run away from her Arizona home, to North Las Vegas and forced her to

stay in his home in the 1100 block of Dawn Valley, near Washburn Road and Camino Al Norte.

After using scissors to unlock a bedroom door, she called police from a convenience store Thursday and said she had escaped from a house where she had been held captive, North Las Vegas officer Steven Wiese said Saturday.

“She was held captive in the suspect’s home for approximately one month, during which time she had been sexually abused,” Wiese said of the initial investigation.

It was not immediately clear how the alleged second victim got away.

Police were conducting surveillance on Kim when they pulled him over and arrested him about 10 p.m. Thursday in the area of Sandstone Ridge Park, where Washburn turns into Hammer Lane, Wiese said.

Officers searched Kim’s home and found “numerous pieces of evidence during the search, including a firearm,” Wiese said. Police also found evidence that Kim might have had more victims. They did not provide details.

The 14-year-old was taken to a local hospital Thursday night where she was treated and released. She has since been returned to her family in Arizona, Wiese said.

Reno police have turned over the August kidnapping case to North Las Vegas police, Wiese said Tuesday.

North Las Vegas Justice Court administrator Terri March said Tuesday that no charges related to the Reno case had been filed in that jurisdiction, but she added that the investigation is ongoing. — Contact Kimberly De La Cruz at kdelacruz@reviewjournal.com or 702-383-0381.
