Warriors forward Varejao out of Olympics in Brazil with back injury
Golden State Warriors forward/ center Anderson Varejao will miss the upcoming Olympics in his native Brazil due to a back injury.
Varejao was examined earlier in the week by Dr. Robert Watkins in Marina Del Ray, Calif. The 33-year-old was diagnosed with a small lower back disc herniation.
Varejao, who signed a one-year deal with Golden State earlier this month, is expected to be fine for the start of training camp. He initially came to the Warriors in March after spending the first 11 years of his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Between the Cavaliers and Warriors last season, Varejao averaged 2.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 53 games.
SUNS: The Phoenix Suns made significant changes to their coaching staff, naming Jay Triano as the team’s associate head coach and Tyrone Corbin and Nate Bjorkgren as assistants.
Phoenix also tabbed Marlon Garnett as an assistant coach/player development coordinator and Scott Duncan and Jason Fraser as player development coaches.
MAVERICKS: Dallas re-signed 13-time NBA All-Star Dirk Nowitzki, the team officially announced.
