Marlins acquire pitchers Cashner, Rea from San Diego

Buyers at the trade deadline for a change, the Miami Marlins believe they now have enough starting pitching to make a playoff push.

The Marlins acquired the rotation reinforcem­ents they sought in a trade Friday that cost them four players. Right-handers Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea were sent to Miami by the San Diego Padres in the seven-player deal.

Miami also will receive pitching prospect Tayron Guerrero and cash NOTES for right-handers Jarred Cosart and Carter Capps and two minor leaguers, pitching prospect Luis Castillo and first baseman Josh Naylor.

ROYALS — Center fielder Lorenzo Cain was reinstated from the disabled list after missing a month with a left hamstring strain, and rookie outfielder Brett Eibner was optioned to Triple-A Omaha.

Cain, 30, hit .290 with eight home runs and 39 RBIs in 73 games before missing 25 games.

INDIANS — Cleveland placed Jeff Manship on the 15-day disabled list and activated fellow right-handed reliever Zach McAllister from the DL.

The 31-year-old Manship, who has a 3.38 ERA in 37 appearance­s, has tendinitis in his right wrist. McAllister, 28, who has a 5.40 ERA in 30 appearance­s, was out since July 7 with a sore right hip.

RANGERS — Right-handed reliever Shawn Tolleson was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to make room for newly acquired right-handed starter Lucas Harrell.

Tolleson, 28, who had 35 saves last season, lost his closer role in mid-May and has a 7.68 ERA in 37 appearance­s this season.

Harrell, 31, was acquired Wednesday in a trade with Atlanta.

METS — Center fielder Juan Lagares is expected to miss six weeks because of a sprained left thumb that needs surgery.

The 27-year-old former Gold Glove winner was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, and New York recalled outfielder Brandon Nimmo, 23, from Triple-A Las Vegas.
