49ers QB continues oppression protest
SAN DIEGO — Colin Kaepernick and San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid kneeled during the national anthem Thursday, continuing the quarterback’s preseason protest of American racial injustice and minority oppression.
Kaepernick and Reid dropped to one knee while a naval officer sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” and dozens of military members unfurled an oversized flag at the Chargers’ Qualcomm Stadium.
Kaepernick, who was 11 of 18 passing for 103 yards in the 49ers’ 31-21 win, received scattered boos when he dropped to a knee.
The visit by the 49ers (2-2) visit coincided with the annual Salute to the Military preseason game for the Chargers (1-3), who have strong fan support in their city’s extensive armed forces community.
Texans 28, Cowboys 17 — At Arlington, Texas, Tom Savage threw for 119 yards and converted two fourth downs into TDs for Houston (4-0).
Jameill Showers played the entire game at quarterback for Dallas (1-3), throwing a touchdown pass but also losing a fumble at the Cowboys’ 19 and throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown.
Giants 17, Patriots 9 — At East Rutherford, N.J., Tom Brady was 16 of 26 passing for 166 yards and a touchdown for New England (3-1).
Ryan Nassib was 16 of 29 for 210 yards and a TD for New York (2-2).
Falcons 17, Jaguars 15 — At Atlanta, Terron Ward ran for 62 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries to help Atlanta (3-1) edge Jacksonville (1-3).
Brandon Allen was 17 of 26 passing for 164 yards and two touchdowns for the Jaguars.
Eagles 14, Jets 6 — At Philadelphia, Paul Turner returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown, and Ed Reynolds took an interception 90 yards for a score for Philadelphia (4-0).
Bryce Petty was 4 of 6 passing for 87 yards and a TD for New York (1-3).
Vikings 27, Rams 25 — At Minneapolis, Jhurell Pressley turned a short throw into a 28-yard touchdown reception and returned a kickoff 106 yards for a touchdown for Minnesota (4-0). Rookie Jared Goff played the entire first half for Los Angeles (2-2), going 6 of 16 passing for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Titans 21, Dolphins 10 — At Miami Gardens, Fla., Tennessee (3-1) forced and recovered a fumble on the game’s first play, setting up a score in its win over Miami (2-2).
Panthers 18, Steelers 6 — At Charlotte, N.C., Cameron Artis-Payne ran for 77 yards on 18 carries, and Gra-
