Miners end skid with authority, roll past Mojave
Stephen Wright threw three touchdowns Thursday, and host Sunrise Mountain rolled to a 54-0 victory over Mojave in a Class 3A Sunset League football game.
Trayvon Ward rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, and Claude Moore added two TD runs for the Miners (2-3, 1-0 Sunset), who ended a three-game losing skid.
Wright finished 12-for-18 for 201 yards and threw second-quarter touchdowns to Daltyn Pytrysson (14 yards) and Te’andre Love (35 yards) to help Sunrise Mountain take a 34-0 lead at halftime.
Wright added a 3-yard scoring strike to Kemani Wilks in the third quarter.
Dante Calahan returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdowns less than a minute into the game for Sunrise Mountain, which held the Rattlers (0-5, 0-1) to 139 yards of total offense.
Khalid Walker led Mojave with 105 yards rushing.
■ Lincoln County 32, Lake Mead 0 — At Panaca, Zachary Rowe ran for 143 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries as the Lynx blanked the Eagles.
Cody Thornock threw for 96 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown pass to Landon Smith as the Lynx took control of the game with a 15-point first quarter.
Zach Florence started the scoring with a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown with 9:30 to go in the first quarter.
The Lynx put the game away early in the fourth quarter when Jaques Wadsworth blocked a punt and Kevin Mathews scooped up the loose ball and scored to make it 29-0.
