Don’t rule out T-mobile for Mayweather-mcgregor
WE’VE had the Ali Shuffle. What about the Arena Shuffle? The Floyd Mayweatherconor Mcgregor fight seemed to inch closer to reality with the news that Mayweather Promotions had secured MGM Grand Garden Arena for an event Aug. 26. Maybe.
But what if Mayweather Promotions works a deal to move the bout to the larger (and more lucrative) T-mobile Arena on that date. The venue is currently booked for the championship game of
Ice Cube’s Big 3 basketball tournament, but that could be moved to MGM Grand.
If promotors are looking to usurp some of the money, publicity and energy from the Sept. 16 Canelo Alvarezgennady “Triple G” Golovkin bout at T-mobile, this move would achieve that.
We go mad!
“Alice” is diving down the rabbit hole once more.
Inspired by steampunk and driven by re-imagined rock classics, the musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” returns to Rocks Lounge at Red Rock Resort on July 10. The show will be performed at 10 p.m. on alternate Monday nights through December.
“Alice” is an 80-minute rock odyssey, unleashing its narrative through a series of numbers that have featured Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy),” the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” Included in the new set list is a nod to Vegas rockers Imagine Dragons, “Believer,” from their new album, “Evolve.”
It’s a powerful ride where the smiles arrive only from Cheshire Cat (played by Jeffrey Debarathy of “Zombie Burlesque’), creator Anne Martinez’ vocals as Alice and her singing alter-ego, Ashley Fuller as Ecila ( “Alice” backward).
“The whole idea with this show is that anything is possible,” says Martinez, the indefatigable Strip stage veteran of a half-dozen production
Jazz vocalist Jonathan Karrant, whose album “On and On” hit No. 4 on Billboard’s Jazz Charts, is bringing his show to the Smith Center. Named a Top 12 rising jazz vocalist by the NYC Jazz Record, his honors are numerous, including the New York City Jazz Cabaret Honors and “Best Singer” for The Bravo California Awards.
Cabaret Scenes Magazine has said that Karrant has “an easygoing command of the jazz idiom.” The International Review of Music has said that Karrant has a “warm, engaging manner, a voice to match, and an attractive presentation style.”
His peformance includes classic selections from the American Songbook.

Martinez’s optimism serves as the show’s heartbeat, leading it through an uncharted path similar to Alice’s trek through Wonderland. She rolled “Alice” out in the spring of 2014 at Tuscany’s Copa Room.
The firepower of the show’s debut — I wrote at the time the performance was akin to tossing an M-1000 into a mailbox — proved it needed a bigger venue.
“When the show started, we didn’t know how blunt we wanted to be,” says Martinez, who is sharpening the show’s storyline and invoking more of the book of “Alice” into the production. “Now we want to let the reins go.”
Carrot’s props
Scott Thompson, known by his stage name of Carrot Top, has had a lively month: He has yet another new prop, and he visited with Chris Rock over the weekend.
Topper has added a Tiger Woods golf bag, fashioned after a giant bottle of prescription pills. “Sorry @ tigerwoods. It’s my job,” Thompson said on his Instagram page.
On Sunday, Chris Rock posted a photo with Topper taken after Rock’s shows Saturday at Park Theater. The two are friends and mutual fans.
Fortunate run
Rock legend John Fogerty is solidifying his presence on the Strip with a 15-show extension at Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas. He’ll be back for a series of shows this fall and another half-dozen shows in January.
“John is the epitome of a rock legend and brings an incredible amount of energy to the Encore Theater stage every night he performs,” Wynn Las Vegas President Maurice Wooden said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to provide even more opportunity for our guests to experience this world-class show.” This also means the return of one of the show’s great moments, Fogerty and his son Tyler hammering it down during “Good Golly Miss Molly.”
