Las Vegas Review-Journal

A different look for prep football

-

Welcome back to the high school football season.

The first kickoff in Southern Nevada is Thursday night with one game, then the bulk of the action begins Friday night.

As usual, we will feature at least two games and a roundup of all other games in print while highlighting almost every game at our high school sports website, Nevadapreps.com.

However, our weekly coverage will be more than games. For example, for the first time in many years, we will have our staff rankings, which debut in this edition of the Review-journal. Each Thursday, we will print our staff poll of the top five Southern Nevada teams in all four classes.

Also, we say goodbye to

Fielder and his picks. We think he transferred to a Southern California school. Word is he has become a preps bookie somewhere in Ladera Ranch.

This year we will involve our high school writers in the picks. Each week all five of them — Justin Emerson, Ashton Ferguson, Sam Gordon, Ben Gotz and Damon Seiters — will pick five games in our High School Challenge. It’s similar to our College Football Challenge every Saturday and our NFL Challenge each Sunday.

And in case you wondered what happened to high school reporter Bartt Davis, he’s still with us. He is doing important behindthe-scenes work on our preps coverage, including schedules, rosters and results.

Remember, all of our preps coverage — the most comprehensive in the southwest — is available at Nevadapreps.com.
