Red Sox acquire OF Davis from A’s

The American League East-leading Boston Red Sox boosted their outfield depth by acquiring Rajai Davis from the Oakland Athletics for 18-year-old minor league outfielder Rafael Rincones.

Boston also put center fielder Jackie Bradley

Jr. (left thumb sprain) on the 10-day disabled list and designated outfielder Steve Selsky for assignment.

Davis, 36, in his 12th major league season, hit .233 with 26 stolen bases, five home runs and 18

RBIS in 100 games with Oakland this season. He led the AL with 43 steals last year for Cleveland.

■ Cardinals: Righthande­d reliever Trevor Rosenthal was transferre­d to the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury that will require ligament replacemen­t surgery. Also, left-handed reliever Ryan Sherriff ’s contract was purchased from Memphis, and right-handed reliever Josh Lucas was optioned to the Triple-a club.

■ Obit: Joe Klein, who was a general manager for Texas (1982 to 1984), Cleveland (1986 and 1987) and Detroit (1994 and 1995) before spending the past two decades as executive director of the Atlantic League, died Wednesday at 75 after complicati­ons from heart surgery, his family said.

■ Orioles: Zach

Britton’s Al-record run of converting 60 straight saves ended when he yielded two runs on three hits and a walk in the ninth inning of Baltimore’s 8-7, 12-inning with over Oakland. The left-hander hadn’t blown a save since Sept. 20, 2015.

■ Reds: Alejandro Chacin’s contract was purchased from Louisville, Luke Farrell was recalled from the Triple-a club, fellow right-handed reliever Blake Wood was designated for assignment, and outfielder Phillip Ervin was optioned to Louisville.

■ Mariners: Righthande­d reliever David Phelps (right elbow impingemen­t) was activated from the disabled list, and outfielder Leonys Martin was designated for assignment.

■ Indians: Second baseman Jason Kipnis (right hamstring strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and infielder Erik Gonzalez was recalled from Triple-a Columbus.

■ Twins: Right-handed reliever John Curtiss’ contract was selected from Triple-a Rochester, and right-hander Tim Melville was designated for assignment.

■ Dodgers: Righthande­r Brock Stewart was optioned to Oklahoma City, and catcher/third baseman Kyle Farmer was recalled from the Triple-a club.

■ Phillies: Right-handed reliever Drew Anderson was recalled from Lehigh Valley, and outfielder Cameron Perkins was optioned to the Triple-a club.

■ Pirates: Angel Sanchez was recalled from Indianapol­is, and fellow right-handed reliever

Edgar Sanchez was optioned to the Triple-a club.

■ Athletics: Daniel Gossett was recalled from Nashville, and fellow righthande­r Michael Brady was optioned to the Triple-a club.

■ Braves: A.J. Minter was recalled from Gwinnett, and fellow left-hander Max Fried was optioned to the Triple-a club.
