Fundraiserto be held in Mountain’s Edge

-

Get an early start to your day and join superheroes from all over the Las Vegas Valley and the local nonprofit Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada in the battle against childhood cancer at the Superhero 5K with Chet Buchanan.

There’s something for all ages this morning with activities at Exploration Park in Mountain’s Edge, a master-planned community in the southwest Las Vegas Valley.

Early-risers can still register for the race and walk today from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. or can attend the event to show support for participants and cancer survivors. Superhero costumes — and well-behaved leashed pets — are welcome. Opening ceremonies start at 7:30 a.m. with the race at 8 a.m. and the walk 15 minutes later.

Festivities continue until 11 a.m. They include an area for kids with a bounce house and games, bone marrow drive hosted by Be The Match, awards ceremony for timed runners, food, kids zone with jump houses, refreshments and raffle prizes.

This year’s event ambassadors will be honored for their courage, spirit and bravery in dealing with their cancer and serving as inspirations for those around them and others fighting the deadly disease. Superhero Ambassadors Kaila Elder, 13, battled embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, and Benji Sanchez, 3, has choroid plexus carcinoma. Angel Ambassador Lucas Ahlbach was 10 years old when he lost his battle.

Attendees can enjoy the 80-acre Exploration Park’s many amenities. Features are replicas of an Old West settlement, Native American play structures and archaeological dig area. Also, there is a splash pad, picnic areas and the 2,846-foot-tall Exploration Peak with hiking and cycling trails and panoramic views of the Las Vegas Valley.

Runners and walkers will see several of the master plan’s neighborhoods along their route and are invited to tour the community after the event and see why it has been ranked among the country’s best-selling master-planned communities. Although Mountain’s Edge is nearing sellout, there are still opportunities to become a resident. Well-appointed floor plans by the industry’s top builders, including Calatlantic Homes, Century Communities, KB Home and Lennar, are still available.

Developed by Focus Property Group, Mountain’s Edge features parks, trails, open spaces and public facilities. Paseos connect residents to the recreation areas, including Exploration Park, Nathaniel Jones Park, Paiute Park and Clark County’s Mountain’s Edge Regional Park. Desert landscaping is incorporated throughout, enhancing the natural beauty of the area.

The master plan’s southwest Las Vegas location provides access to the Red Rock National Conservation Area, major employment, Strip entertainment offerings and public facilities and schools.

Mountain’s Edge is at 9725 S. Buffalo Drive, the corner of Buffalo and Blue Diamond Road. Exploration Park is just south of the main community entrance. For information, call 702-898-5777 or visit www. mountainsedge.com.
